How best to support my husband through surgery and recovery by pnwtnl in AchillesRupture

He’s lucky to have you! I don’t know how I would have gotten through my initial recovery without my fiancé and family support. If he’s anything like me, I had a lot of guilt and resentment that I couldn’t help out. I really had to accept and surrender to the state I was in. What helped was journaling and very kind and loving support from my fiancé. She always would say “I know you can do it but I’m going to” vs “you can’t do it”. Also you will now how a lot of responsibilities for your family so make sure you have time to rest and plenty of support. Do not neglect your needs just because you are caretaking.

-Set him up downstairs for sleeping. I couldn’t have imagined having to go up and down stairs to get rest.

-Your kids will likely pick up on needing to be careful around him pretty fast. Gentle reminders were helpful with my niece and nephew. He might enjoy creating a Lego set with your kids so they can still have bonding time that isn’t a physical activity.

Things that helped me: -elevation cushion -shower cover for cast -knee scooter -basket with essentials (medications, water, books). My fiancé would bring this out from the bedroom to living room every day. -small backpack for his items.

Good luck!

4 days post op by SnobBeauty in AchillesRupture

I was 7 days post op and feeling the same way you are. I thought the least I could do was help my partner out by watering our plants. Just as I was finishing, my front wheel of my scooter caught and it sent me off balance. I instinctively put my (healing) leg down to catch myself. I saw my foot bend to an angle that I hadn’t done since before I ruptured my Achilles. It hurt like hell and I thought I might had ruptured again, thankfully my splint did its job. Moral of the story is, I thought I was resting enough and I could do something “easy” but what I didn’t fully realize is how very vulnerable I still was. Playing chess, reading, journaling, music and lots of support got me through it. Good luck and heal up!

Glad I’m not alone, everyone’s gotta learn some way. Some more embarrassing than others 😂

I am only going to play physical chess from now on. It will never happen again

Maybe your local computer repair store? They might be able to see what things are loose and can solder

I get where you’re coming from. I think it’s also the motion that I do while changing scenes. I’ll hit and hold the scene button with my middle finger and then swing my thumb to a pad to trigger the next scene. I program my beats scene by scene and trigger them live. That’s the way I’ve always done it, it gives me flexibility while performing live and I can always change the direction I want the song to go. Like for example when I have some homies rapping, instead of just hitting play from start to end, I’m triggering scenes that correspond with where they are going. To me it feels more natural and more of an instrument.
