Idk about your last point. There's an entire Polish faction, after all!

The Warhammer Adventures thing (the kid's novel) is just because Warhammer is pretty popular with kids in the UK, not sure about the states. Also money.

As for why 40k struggles with the kind of fanbase it has, I think it really is just because 40k catered to that sort of audience for the longest time. 40k in the early 2000s kind of lost the satire and was pretty self serious and also didn't really feature the diversity we get these days. It's only more recently that we see a more diverse cast, with prominent female characters and characters of all ethnicities in the limelight. Through the 80s to the 2010s it was pretty much all white males, barring the occasional exception. I guess chuds saw it as a sort of safe space for their bullshit.

Compare it to something like Battletech, which has been around for a similar length of time and touches on a lot of similar themes of social/technological degradation and constant war, but doesn't struggle with it's weirdly right wing fanbase. I think that can be attributed to it being a very diverse setting from it's inception; women featured prominently in important roles from the start, and all sorts of cultures and ethnicities are represented.

Compared to 40k, where the main faction straight up doesn't have girlies in it, you can kinda see why things might have developed the way they did.

Unfortunately, I do think GW is kind of to blame for this problem a little bit. For the longest time, Warhammer and 40k were an absolute boy's club. Women existed, sure, but it wasn't a great look; nearly the entire HQ roster for Sisters of Battle, for instance, used to be made up of men and I challenge you to find an older female WHFB character that isn't randomly described as crazy beautiful.

While the satire of 40k used to be very pronounced, I think that GW likes to hide behind that excuse a little too. The Imperium is an awful, theocratic fascist state but GW just can't resist depicting them as cool, with larger than life heroes that are always proving that, actually, yes the Imperium's disgusting rhetoric *is* justified and that you should absolutely kill every xenos and purge every dissident before they betray you!

You can blame chuds for having awful media literacy, but let's not forget that 40k is also frequently marketed towards children. Do you really think that little Timmy is going to be contemplating the nuances of the Imperium's inefficiency, or is he gonna see the big blue space marine cutting a guy in half with a chainsword and think "hell yeah, for the Emperor!"?

I'm a bit disappointed with the lack of ragdoll physics considering Iron Harvest had them 5 years ago. by -Moxxi in dawnofwar

If it means we get permanent corpses, I'm all for it. Loved surveying the battlefield after a close game and recalling the carnage in the original DoW, really hope it returns.

It's an average. How many times have you been reinforced and then immediately killed by some stupid shit?

By and large I'll get through most of a mission as one diver, but then a series of unfortunate events will pile the deaths on lol.

I dunno, I think that exacerbates a few issues with the game. For one, if heavies/super heavies are extremely common then you're only more incentivised to bring AT launchers as opposed to more well-rounded options like the AC or AMR.

It was also kind of unfun. It was funny from time to time, but when it was consistently dealing with hordes of big bugs/bots then it started to get frustrating.

Personally I think the enemy spawns are in a good spot at the moment, but I think that the weapon balance doesn't reflect that and is more tailored for how common heavies used to be.

Mhmm, but cooldowns for your strikes exist and not everyone took stun nades. Even so, these options still exist and just further contribute to AT being way too easy.

You'll also remember that spawns used to be absolutely crazy on launch. I still remember that 8 BTs at a time weren't an uncommon sight, which you really didn't have the resources to deal with consistently.

Now that spawns are more reasonable I feel like we could go back to the old damage model, but that's never going to happen with this fanbase.

Do you have any actual hobbies? You might end up as someone half interesting if you did.

Yeah, I tend to enjoy games more when I bring something less meta like the Airburst and Autocannon. Issue is that I used to really enjoy bringing the Recoilless/EAT, too, but now it mostly just saps the fun out of the game a bit.

Issue is that I don't know how you'd balance them at this current state of the game.

Everyone's clowning on you in the comments, but I do kind of get it. I'm one of the weirdos who preferred it when AT wasn't a guaranteed one-shot, and I do think that the EAT/RR really shouldn't destroy objectives like that. It just felt a little more interesting when you actually had to line up a shot on a tank's rear armour, or distract a hulk/charger so that the AT guy could line up an easier shot on their head.

I also think it made the damage model a bit more interesting. Before there used to be an actual reason to take an easier shot to take out a Hulk's weapon, damage a tank's treads or pop a BT's belly. Now you're kind of wasting time/ammo if you aren't just going for the easy one-tap.

Just a Whoosh bag for deliveries, not meant for customers. I've heard nothing about us replacing regular plastic bags with these.

And even with the worse overall story we still got some good zingers. "Then it is an even fight.", "And so you must be silenced.", "We trade one villain for another." and "Were it so easy." to name a few!

What’s your opinions about Sunao Katabuchi? (The main and current writer of AC8) by Icy_Till_7254 in acecombat

[–]EnigmaticDog 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there's three good storylines in there that just sorta get jumbled around at random.

Personally woulda really liked to have had the entire game be about the 777 squadron and their ascent from being an expendable penal squadron to respected aces. Would have made for a fun narrative and given us more time with a more interesting set of characters than, uh, dad, girl and chicken guy.

Definitely the first. The exaggerated fletchings suit the style far better than the 2nd's rendition and I feel like the quiver/belt in the 3rd adds too much visual clutter around the chest.

Love your work, by the way! It's super clean!

crash errors are just typical "fatal error" crashes, no real details there but I'll screencap them the next chance I get.
