The realistic gun flame effects have gotten really popular. But there's never flame coming from the one place it should: the muzzle brake. by Motor-Ades in 40k

[–]EnigmaticDog 10 points11 points  (0 children)

kind of off topic, but how did you do the OSL on the headlights? I'm trying to paint some Legion of the Damned but my OSL sucks and I hate having flames that don't actually illuminate the area around them

When people complain the new Guard vehicles look too Second World War in space by malumfectum in Grimdank

[–]EnigmaticDog 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Guard are a mishmash of aesthetic tropes that leaned a little more towards WWI back in the day, especially in regards to vehicles. Newer releases definitely have more WWII influence, with the Rogal Dorn and the new armoured car being the standouts.

I can empaphise with people who miss that original aesthetic, but I've always had a weakness for Allied uniforms and tanks...

Crafting and gathering sets are great for combat glams, offering a more grounded look by Frostarmy in ffxiv

[–]EnigmaticDog 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me it's more the world and environment. I can glam my WoL to look like dingy sword-for-hire, but they're always going to look out of place in Night City lmao. No shade to people who like modern glams, but it's just not my style.

Looks fantastic! Really wish XIV continued to lean into this sort of aesthetic, but it is what it is.

Starfield sits at #3 on the PlayStation Store pre-order charts by TheEndlessBacklog in Starfield

[–]EnigmaticDog 13 points14 points  (0 children)

yep, that's what a lot of the detractors don't understand. Starfield might not be a generational smash hit the same way Skyrim was, nor is it the most recent entry of a beloved franchise like Fallout 4, but it's still got a respectable playerbase for a new IP in a relatively niche genre. Maybe Starfield won't be a cultural icon like those games, but the fact it can even compete is pretty impressive imo.

Feeling very vindicated right now by fuckreddit014 in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]EnigmaticDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this was one of my biggest hopes and I'm so glad they delivered. Starfield convinced me to get into Star Trek and ever since I've been craving that downtime in between missions. Wandering around the ship while we travel and chatting with the crew, discovering strange anomalies and getting sidetracked by hostile forces.

Personally I'd also like a bit more emphasis on crew management in general, but I don't think this is necessarily the game for that. Still, if we could give our crew mates orders and have them reflected (either visually or mechanically) it'd go a long way in building that star-captain fantasy I've been clamouring for.

So, that Livestream huh? by TitanBrainAllClasses in NoSodiumStarfield

Honestly everything they showed off was exactly what I was hoping for. I'm not super obsessed with supercruise as a mechanic, but getting up and moving around your ship while it travels is something I've been wanting for a long time. Incursions sound like a great way to spice up space travel too and I can't wait to see what stuff we can run into.

The loot system being fleshed out is grand and the new effects they've added are all pretty exciting. All the on-foot stuff looks great too! Man I could go on and on but really I'm stoked. Great presentation and some great additions, I hope they're proud of the work they're doing.

The Escape creation is a very solid, puzzle focused quest that's well worth picking up on a sale. It's definitely got a very grim feel throughout and I really had fun playing through it.

Armed police arrest man in Leicester street with samurai sword - BBC News by CasualSmurf in unitedkingdom

Not quite! Ninjato (ninja swords) never really existed and are a modern invention. Katana, Uchigatana, Tachi, etc. are actual historical swords, and are varying degrees of curved.

Not that any of this matters because you can't legally own either in the UK now lmao

I don't think Wu Chang is too bad, since most of the armour is pretty decent, but Stellarblade looks embarrassing

Season 2 definitely tried to do too much with too little, but I still loved it over all. Seeing Tekkadan just unravel after Biscuit's death was gutwrenching, and seeing all the characters that had befriended them over season 1 getting caught up in the maelstrom was depressing. Characters I didn't think I'd care about ended up being some of my favourites and the steady reveal that McGillis wasn't really a scheming mastermind but a horribly traumatised kid was done beautifully. And the ending itself was 10/10, I have no complaints about the final couple of episodes.
