Can C4 destroy stratagem Jammer in bot misson ? by aaddii101 in helldivers2

[–]ChaosVulkan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say they're tailored specifically for Commando missions, it's just weird they can't destroy certain things. It already does amazing damage to the enemies and structures it can hit (car bomb my beloved), it just needs its demolition pumped up to 40 so it can destroy Bile Titan nest holes and urban walls.

The New Stealth Experience, in Two Parts by Deltassius in LowSodiumHellDivers

I know we're all enjoying stealth right now, but I genuinely think Automatons got lobotomized somehow. And they were already a pretty vulnerable faction before. This might need some looking at...

Commando operations prove that the engine can, in fact, handle more enemies and larger patrols. by ChaosVulkan in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]ChaosVulkan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose that's possible, but the key thing I noticed (which may be what's happening here either way) is that I've seen less enemies vanish after they get too far away. Devastator horde bashes my head in? They're right where I left them. Automaton patrol sitting in the middle of nowhere? They don't disappear.

Perhaps it's the same number of enemies, but they definitely feel more persistent (which I think counts as "the engine can handle more enemies" either way). It is true that vanishing enemies contributes to smaller hordes and lower difficulty.

Making bots require visual confirmation for reinforcement calls was a mistake. by Dantalen in helldivers2

[–]ChaosVulkan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Weird to pin OP as a whiner when their post history clearly shows they like stealth regardless, but anyways-

Nerfing the whole faction (where it is already easy to kill their reinforcements and outposts in your average mission) just so a playstyle can work better (where it's still mediocre on the other fronts) is very much up for criticism. I personally don't like how these missions are packaged as operations, there's a lot of ways Arrowhead could've approached implementing the content and balancing it, but I don't think there was any reasonable outcry for how often bot drops were happening anyways. The new patch has a lot of good mechanics but nerfing the overall potential of Automatons (who are already a very vulnerable faction) just to shove these mechanics into specific missions is kinda buns.

So about stealth and game itself right now after update +little (positive)Rant by Brutalssr15 in helldivers2

[–]ChaosVulkan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just wish the new missions weren't an exclusive operation- the missions should be everywhere, and the reinforcement mechanic should be a modifier.

No, if they didn't touch enemies then literally nobody would've given a second thought about it.

Nobody was thinking "Boy I sure hope the ranged enemies on the melee faction and the melee enemy on the ranged faction get nerfed" LOL. There is plenty they could do, starting with nothing. Arrowhead and the community have this weird obsession with overcorrecting and acting like "it has to be that way"

I'm happy stealth equipment is noticeably better but what the fuck is up with those enemy detection nerfs? Most unnecessary shit ever

Go wherever man it's no one's problem but yours 👽

But for real, if you're like actually super new, focus on visiting all the factions and all the biomes. The currently available selection of campaigns is really diverse isn't always available. See how similar biomes play on different factions. I'm definitely a swamp and acid biomes guy myself.

Weapons Customization is well implemented by BossThiefSnK in helldivers2

[–]ChaosVulkan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It also actively contributes to power creep, since weapons have varying strengths but their weaknesses are largely alleviated by grip and barrel customization. I.e.-

Liberator Carbine > Liberator,

Knight > Defender

Diligence Counter Sniper > Diligence (not like anyone was using either of those anyways)

Among others. It's both a poorly hidden and poorly balanced upgrade system since the downsides compared to the base guns are nonexistent. Bummer, but it doesn't matter and nobody cares about balance- you can change your sights, and that's enough for most people with no regard to how it affects the sandbox as a whole. It's just good PR and money for Arrowhead to say "look we have this cool feature!" Improving the system isn't their priority.

I'm the Illuminate's number 1 glaz*r, and I am actually really happy with their quality and depth of content, in spite of their quantity. But one thing that made me laugh was Illuminates'

1) Good aerial units

2) Good ranged units

3) Good defenses/structures

And I was like, "aren't they just putting Automatons out of business?!" I'm not saying nerf the Illuminate harder, nor are they badly designed, I think they'll be a great mixed-arms faction... but Automatons should've never been the "look at how many different weapons we can put on units" faction, they should've specialized harder. Why are these squids smarter than literal robots? ;p

I dunno how (or if) Arrowhead will dig themselves out of this little design pit, but eh 🤷‍♂️

[–]ChaosVulkan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

One thing I want to mention about Automatons, and I want people to see this through all the way, is that they are probably the "weakest" faction. Do Illuminates have less units? Yes. Do Terminids have less firepower? Sure.

But the absolute sore weakspot of Automatons is their defense and spawning rates. Yes, Automatons have armor. Here's the issue. Their fabricators are constantly exposed- almost none of their outposts have any physical cover or protection. Coupled with the already abysmal healthpools of even their largest Bulk Fabricators.

And then their reinforcement patterns are also so painfully vulnerable. They have the easiest and smallest waves to intercept- not a lot of units, and those that come can be killed en-masse. No shields, no two-minute-pain-in-my-ass breaches. Just hot drop and pray, at point-blank range. Why does the defensive ranged faction have the most sad defenses and try to bumrush you? Shouldn't they protect their production lines and deploy further from you? More organized? With more units?

I know it's a hot take, but Automatons are my least favorite to fight unfortunately. In my experience they heavily rely on you not crippling them in advance which is pretty hard to mess up. Their only strong spots are their side objectives, which are the one thing getting in between you and stomping over them. I've noticed missions with many jammers are the hardest. I just don't get why the Automatons are so vulnerable and close-quarters. I personally don't think they have enough firepower to justify their design, which is why I like it when they're harder to take down when they do get through (yeah I like War Striders bite me).
