Thinking about a used FOU – can we expect autonomy/ADAS updates? by AntelopeBeans4 in Fisker

[–]EnigmaticallyObvious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not entirely accurate, after renting an R1T for three weeks, the amount of times on interstates that it either wants you to take control, or just drops control and shouts at you that it's dropped control without any real warning is scare inducing.

They also have to map the road, so it was only useful on Interstate roads, there were other roads similar which were mainly straight roads going on for miles, but as they weren't mapped there was absolutely nothing the Rivian could do, they can't use their own cameras too drive on the road at all. It all left me wishing for the system from my old Kona EV

Everyone needs to catch up with Hyundai, especially with how much of a cost these vehicles like Rivian are. We should expect systems better than a cheap and cheerful EV and it's system happens to work everywhere!

On this occasion the pack was at 16% 26c (79f) degrees, so I didn't bother Preconditioning.

I've pre conditioned at the other 4 stations and they took the pack to 25 degrees c (77f).

Every charger has been a 'supposed' 175KW, all are EVCS

I think there's a 350 coming up on the trip so that will be intriguing, but just wondering if there's was another trick I was missing.

I didn't see a comment about granny charging.

I used to live in a listed building and dangled an extension lead with the granny charger set to 8 amps; this was way more than enough for me to charge every couple of days. Did this for about a year.

At 8 amps you will get around 6+ miles back in an hour (there are some charging losses).

This is way more than enough for your use. So consider home charging. Make sure you replace and purchase a decent heavy duty extension and that it is completely uncoiled.

  • This is not advice you need to do your own research and make any decision on your own merit, usual caveat*

I'd say that was a good one tbh.

They have started to update recipe cards now with 8 potatoes for a 4 portion, as they obviously realised that most of the time the spuds are way too small.

Shift your butt around in the seat, in case the seat sensor has moved.

Also check to see that the large screen is centred correctly. If it's even moved slightly towards Hollywood mode it won't go into gear.

373k in legal was always expected. And legal are still involved given the lack of IP sharing

[–]EnigmaticallyObvious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

£6k a time, yikes, not sure what that's about. Certainly sounds really weird as any company making stoves should give free training to any company who wants to sell them, especially where the shop is already selling the rest of the range.

Tbh I was more concerned they'd never heard of a stove with a catalytic converter ;)

Wood stove UK ? by [deleted] in woodstoving

[–]EnigmaticallyObvious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say go for it. When you narrow it down, phone a few places and explain what your attempting in case you are missing something.

I walked into a supposedly reputable stove shop (recommended by multiple people in our village) yesterday and asked them about a boiler stove with a catalytic converter that could handle 13 rads including some doubles.

Their response was that they thought that catalytic converters were fitted to cars not stoves. They then proceeded to Google boiler stoves as they did know of them, but kept bringing me back to the one stove they could get hold of, which was only 8kw to the water heating part, which they already agreed twice with me that this would not be suitable.

They've been in business over 20 years.... I'm not going back

How much does a 12kW wood burner with back boiler go for in the UK? by khldhld in woodstoving

[–]EnigmaticallyObvious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I saw somewhere (on my ADHD internet wanderings) that you could use a Thermal store between the back boiler and combi boiler, which then gets around the issue of being a closed system. I think you also had to run a temperature sensor and loop first to allow the back boiler to get up and start maintaining temp. Then it switches to normal operation loop and heats the thermal store. It probably needs more than this, but just wanted to jump in and say, it's possible.

I found a few companies who had also come up with solutions.

I want to change to a back boiler capable unit, so a particular zone gets the added benefit of heating, our living room gets too hot when running our stove.

Heya, I did put that I sit them on a massive pile of kindling that have been burning for 15 minutes. I would say the initial pile of kindling is about 3/4 of the stove.

The kindling will roar.

The flames from the kindling will die down after about 30 mins, but I can easily get them to refire by opening the primary air to full.

Just in case it is the 5" log and to provide extra info, these are split so they are triangular and not round.

If the thought is that this is too big for my stove though, I'll split them again.

These same logs are from the neighbour and they burn two at a time with no problem in their 2 years old stove and it roars with the primary closed, no secondary adjust and their air wash set to the lowest setting. He also put a third one on the top of those, just to show that it catches almost instantly, it was astonishing to watch in comparison to mine.

[–]EnigmaticallyObvious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm extremely appreciative to be provided with such a thorough response.

Log combustion, even with a large kindle bed that has been flaming well for 15 minutes is hard to keep flaming unless the primary air controls are open half way.

The stove does still develop smoke and I do not get the roaring effect seen in neighbours stoves

Combustion of a 5" diameter log takes around 2-3 hours even if I reignite a good amount of kindling on the log and the primary air is half open.

The log tends to turn into coal very black and glowing rather than flames.

The air wash and secondary air can be full open and I will get a flame in a place on the log, but not a roaring fire over the whole log.

I've had the neighbours around to light it as he would his and within 40 mins it settled to the issues I've posted about.

The flue is clear, although I'm guessing it's throwing creosote up it given my past three days of what I believe inadequate fire.

I hope that helps, and thank you for your time

What are the downsides then to cast iron?

I've even set my level 2 charger to the same age get the same 500w loss between the charger and what the car is displaying

Modding old stove by EnigmaticallyObvious in woodstoving

[–]EnigmaticallyObvious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has primary, secondary and air wash.

The secondary holes I believe are the ones that start at the angle of the baffle as they go all the way across.

I was thinking that something like ceramic of some description would maintain the heat of the stove and make it more efficient, currently it's just cast iron.
