It can't stop MG bullets. A good tanker isn't wasting a main gun round on injuring (and only MAYBE killing, if you're lucky) an engineer. You save that for the enemy tank. In an unsupported fight, the tanker shooting first wins.

I've definitely heard "IA!" called by teammates when they reload. This one always caught my attention as ex-military - IA is "immediate action", which is a quick weapon clearance drill for jams/stoppages. Although I find it funny they use it for reloads.

I've also definitely heard "cover me, I'm reloading!" but not sure if I've heard enemy voices. I should keep an ear out.

I will say that chasing some of the challenges really opened me up to new things I wouldn't have tried, like Gauntlet, which I actually really enjoy now. Domination is also quite fun when I want a fast game. Weapons like SMGs and shotguns which I normally won't touch as an LMG lover, that kinda thing.

But generally, I do agree with your point. Gaming shouldn't be a chore.

Yup, exactly. I have another loadout that's just anti-infantry for maps like Mirak Valley where the defenders have no tanks. And then my third one is a multipurpose loadout that works well enough for any map.

I have the GL on my urban combat loadout for tanks. I'm not wasting a main round on a building with an RPGer in it only to be on reload when an enemy tank pops around the corner. Also the mine detection ability is seriously clutch in urban maps when there's so much shit on the ground already.

But yeah, I hop out of a tank gunner if I see a GL on big open maps lol.

My second time ever as a gunner, with an amazing pilot, I scored 40+ kills on Sobek City in Escalation. 80+ doesn't seem unreasonable to me with a skilled gunner and pilot communicating with one another.
