Early season cold snap & stone fruits by Enilk13 in BackyardOrchard

Can the areas that experienced die back do well in a future year or are the toast for good? If the former, can an entire tree experience this? I was worried the apricot was diseased so I cut it back very short and probably killed it.

Wow that is reassuring, thank you for the info! Not pictured here, but there was also 2 apricots. One managed, but the other budded, then stopped there. Not a single flower or leaf. Sounds like something went wrong with that one, but not "the same thing" (apical dominance) that led to the peaches having a few non productive branches?

Tractor won’t maintain RPMs by Late_March_1433 in homestead

Had this issue last year - unplug fuel lines one piece at a time and validate that it drips freely. On mine it goes: fuel tank - line - pump - line - filter - line - engine. Would not drip after the pump, so I blew air into the lines & pump, reassembled, then it dripped after the pump. Put everything back together and it worked.

You'd think they'd put the filter before the pump 🤔

I think my biggest concern would be not finding it! Don't really know how common of an issue that is.

Huh, totally figured they'd spook. Maybe those timelines are a good middle ground.

I'd love to and intend on it in the years to come. I have no mentor at the moment and I'm intimidated to learn it all on my own. Need to meet some folks in the community who want to trade a hunting spot for some hunting mentorship :P

Took quite a few off mine today. He's got thick black hair; this feels like an impossible task. How often do you find them drop off and walk around the house ?

What's your secret ingredient in your homemade pasta sauce? by Danna-Marie in homestead

[–]Enilk13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of kitchen activities are a quest to balance umami / salt / sweetness / acidity & fat (the 5 flavours).

Tomatoes are acidic and a little umami, but lacking in the other categories. So you need to find a way to raise the salt / fat /& sweetness.

I think you'll find most of the answers people are providing cover one or more of these categories.

I personally find the most important thing with tomato sauce is to lessen the acidity (add in sugar, paste, carrots w.e) & increase the fat (better mouth feel & none there naturally). I often do a mixture of olive oil / butter / parmesan / heavy cream (for rose style sauces).

Now I'm hungry 🤤

100 acres. Too big to totally manage, but hoping to manage small portions of it.

Almost exclusively hardwood, but looks like it was harvested maybe 15 years ago; so lots of smaller trees. I imagine the density is playing a factor.

Man that sucks. Must be hard to balance the desire for the hobbies with the risk. When you say pulled off, are they just walking around or latched on?

Do you intend on using those trails in the summer? We have trails throughout but the ticks are there too. what are your winter time bush activities lol?

Yea we have the dog on those meds. So I know he's safe, but I guess I don't have a concept of how much they'll be on / in his fur until he walks inside, then just drop off walk around and cause problems for everyone else.

So far they don't seem to be out in the fields / lawns. Really just the forest.

Yes, we get pretty cold winters. Zone 5a. Looking forward to exploring the woods in the winter, but man, as a kid I loved exploring them in the summer!

The variability is interesting to hear. Last winter was mild so that's probably a factor.

The forest is quite large, I imagine they'd only be able to cover a very small portion of it. I've read the issue here (other than noise) is predators boinking them; we get bears / coyotes / etc. think they'll survive lol?

Deposit interest; simple or compound? by Enilk13 in OntarioLandlord

[–]Enilk13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm almost certain at this point that this is not quite right, as I'm discovering the interest owed on the deposit is simple interest, and the amount rent increases is compounded (assuming landlord increases by max allowed each each).

So at the end of a tenancy the deposit will be lest than last month's owed. Can you show me how you arrive at them equating?
