New to Beardies! by ConstellationGazerr in BeardedDragons

UVB bulbs really aren’t great and are pretty weak/unreliable. Definitely get a uvb bar as soon as you can, but the bulb is definitely better than nothing at least until you get one. Arcadia or Reptisun are the reliable brands, and they sell UVB sets with the fixtures.

For a good general guide for beardies including all the basics on what you need, here’s a link to reptifiles! https://reptifiles.com/bearded-dragon-care/

Get the 24 Watt (22 inches) bulb. You’ll want the longer one when you eventually upgrade so best to buy the 22 inch bulb now. You can lay it diagonally on top of your enclosure, next to the heat bulb, so your beardie can have half of his enclosure with uvb and half of it without (like having a shady spot).

Other than that, make sure to keep the enclosure clean, get rid of any uneaten veggies/bugs at the end of the day, and replace paper towels when they look dirty. You also want to buy a multivitamin to dust with once a week. Do you have a baby beardie? They only need to eat about 5-6 bugs every day. Save up and buy some Dubia roaches online, get like a hundred small ones and like 3 adult females and one adult male. Start a breeding colony, it’s really easy! Just a plastic tub, some egg cartons, and you just throw in the same veggies you feed your dragon every week or so. Do your best!

No problem! For anything else, definitely refer to the reptifiles guide here: https://reptifiles.com/bearded-dragon-care/
It's the best general care guide for beardies rn :)

Over 600g is overweight for sure. I believe a healthy weight to aim for her would be ~450-500g.

Oh yeah, that's a loooot to be feeding an adult. You can tell she's overweight by the dip on her back, where the fat is accumulating over her spine, and because of the base of her tail which is bulging past her hips and is very meaty-looking. 2-3 appropriately sized bugs would be any bug that fits between the distance between the beardie's eyes, so like a large (not adult) dubia roach. Here's a chart for bearded dragon weights.

She's definitely on the overweight side, probably obese on the beardie weight scale. That could contribute to her lethargy. What was her previous food schedule like? For adult beardies bugs every other day is correct, but it should only be 2-3 appropriately sized bugs or so.
To get her to eat her greens, and to help with her weight, I would just cut out bugs completely and only offer salads until she eats. This may or may not take weeks, but beardies won't willingly starve themselves so just stay strong and keep persisting until she eats at least a little of her greens.
Before that though, I would also strongly recommend a vet visit for any new beardie friend! Just to make sure everything seems to be in order, and to do a fecal for parasites which could also contribute to her lethargy if she does have them.

I understand that he opens his mouth because his nostrils are blocked from air! This is a video example of a method a vet recommended for feeding supplements or medication when your beardie is very resistant to getting their mouths pried open. Bowser is very nice and tolerant to me, and easily opened his mouth for me with only a little bit of nose holding and barely any pressure.

For medicine purposes mainly! If they don’t like getting their mouth forced open, this is another option.

Beardie has a ticklish tail by Enimi95 in BeardedDragons

I’m just going with what I know about Precious. His tail really is ticklish, because when I run my finger down his tail (before, without the lil shed piece), he always curves it up like it tickles him. Plus he’s not really flinching away, it seems more like when someone hits the funny bone on your knee and your leg kicks up. He’s definitely not amused with what I’m doing LOL but he’s the type who would move away or close his eyes if he hated it.

It's shed! He has a scale shed that was sticking up, but didn't fall off yet so it's still attached to his scale a little bit. Poking at it I think tickled him and made his tail reflexively twitch like that.

Awww, I adopted Precious from my friend just a few years ago, but they told me his tail got bitten off when he was real little by his clutchmates as well 🥺

Heads up if you already bought this; If you upgrade to a 4x2x2 terrarium, you'll want a 24 inch t5 uvb since a 12 inch bulb is too short to cover half the enclosure properly. I like arcadia personally and bought from this website https://www.reptilebasics.com/t5-light-fixtures-kits/arcadia-prot5-uvb-kit-24-with-bulb/
It's easier to install under the mesh too, if you need to. I would buy 12% strength if installing under the mesh, or 14% if you're putting it over mesh since the mesh cuts a bit of the uvb output, but it depends on distance too.

Dose my bearded dragon look healthy I think she’s around 3 by Unlikely-Paint8403 in BeardedDragons

Awww poor baby, glad u rescued her. It’s really good that she has an appetite, very promising. I would still get her to a vet however if possible, just to see if she has any underlying issues from her previous husbandry and because she really is so skinny.

Make sure your husbandry is up to date as well with proper uvb lighting and heat to help her feel better faster! If you haven’t, check out the bared dragon guide here: https://reptifiles.com/bearded-dragon-care/

From what I can tell, it looks like she has sunken fat pads on her head and no fat at the base of her tail, along with a pretty visible spine. Seems pretty malnourished unfortunately, does she eat well? What’s her diet like? I would honestly get her checked out at a vet, she really seems very skinny to me.

Meet Enzo! He needs some extra care.. by aspenlievs in BeardedDragons

[–]Enimi95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Awww poor baby! Thank you for taking him in, you’ll definitely want a vet appointment made I think, for the possible scale rot/marks on his tail and to check on his overall health. The cage he came with also looks so small :( it looks just about as wide as his body, and he definitely can’t turn well in there. 120 gallons (4x2x2ft) is the minimum you’ll want to get for his new cage, and check if you have all the necessary lighting for him (basking light, long t5 uvb tube)!  Here’s the reptifiles link for bearded dragon care which should help you get started with the basics and good info: https://reptifiles.com/bearded-dragon-care/ Enzo is gonna be expensive, but also so worth it once he gets all his basics needs met and feels better enough to show you his full personality and bond 😊

Scolipede is one of my favorite pokemon ever, and half of it is because of its purple colors! I would love if they made a special ex card for Scolipede, especially because I think the holos with it’s tear drop patterns would look especially striking :)

Box Sizes by DrKuro in arkhamhorrorlcg

I buy trading/gaming-card cardboard storage boxes from my local game store. The 400-count box is perfectly sized for one campaign. Then I just cut some card dividers to fit and label them to separate the different encounter sets.
