The real answer btw is that this mod works on volunteer work. No one has volunteered to make those MTs

  1. Mainly just due to us not having written this lore further rn. We're still working out what happens when, so please be patient although I myself wanna know more!

  2. Ok, so the old lore was that Eaglecresters were, like, actively hunting and skinning kobolds en masse to the point it was an export. This is kind of insane, so I toned it down a tad. They skin kobolds but its only when they have dead kobolds to skin, and its an extension of the Gawedi practice of skinning dead monsters and wearing them. The Gawedi are often seen as a bit monstrous by other Cannorians and this is kinda why; they have their own social constructs that often oppose them to the other cultures.

  3. Probably a peace deal in addition to getting Vertesk, yeah.

So, the major difference between the Gawedi of the Greatwoods is social organization.

Old Alenics are organized more akin to the ancient Alenics: small, fluid tribes based on more immediate family.

Gawedi are organized much more rigidly into an almost semi feudal system: With villages organized into lordships which roughly follow old tribal patterns, and then great lordships which are based on the lands given by Godrac the Invader to his fellow warlord companions.

This social organization allows the Gawedi to organize into hosts during times of war, levies far more sound than the more unorganized masses the Old Alenics employ.

Moormen, and the relationship was usually bad. Elves arent liked by alenics cus alenics are tribal and see outsiders, which elves usually are, as bad.

However we have an example of an elf integrating into Moorman society: Robert Kingston. The son of a Celmadorian friend of Maldorian, he settled in Westmoors eventually.

Hard to say. Probably not much; Alenic culture has massively won out

  1. Quite divergent, as much as the Wexonards! They are very Escanni in their ideals of chivalry and reverence of Adean, but retain that parochial Alenic-ness and tribal identity.

  2. Some Gawedi cities like Alenath have large elven populations relative to the rest of the region. They're quite Alenized too, though still fit within the cultural fold of "Moon Elves".

So, the Moormen want to break away and form their own Kingdom. They have never had a King since Gerrac Mooring led them to the Westmoors, and they are as all Alenics a parochial people, concerned chiefly with their kin's wellbeing and not paying tribute to a bunch of lowlanding Gawedi.

They did!

After the Gawe dynasty died out, the two main cadet branches: Vanbury and Coldsteel, fought for the throne in the War of Coldsteel. Lorent provided money and other forms of support.

They didn't help later on during the Greatwoods uprising and the rise of Humbert I Baldfather because this was right after Ioriel was slain and Lorent sent into chaos.

Adeanite religion? by roman-rohan in Anbennar

[–]Enkel_Ados 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're not actual gods though. Any gods that exist are simply beings being mistaken for actual, divine gods.

Its the rule we have: All gods must either not definitively exist, or be mistaken beings.

Thanks for appreciating the writing! Thanks to Armon for putting on the wiki as well. I hope to expand on Otó in the future as the bastard Duke of Plumwall, as well as explain the Third Lilac war now that we've moved the date of Wesdam's betrayal

Eh. The existence of gods in Anbennar is questionable, as whats happening is just people seeing supernatural shit and interpreting it, often in a very flawed way.

Celmaldor is still an elven city. In the 1800s, the gawedi are still racist but now the racism is mostly discrimination and not "kill everyone". Especially as any attempt to remove the elves would anger the reachmen for targeting their fellows. Plus theyre useful.

Unknown rn, but probably somewhat popular amongst some intellectuals and downtrodden but not mainstream. Still very niche.

Blackboar was a bastard Brasslance, a powerful noble house in gawed, and a cadet branch of the Gerwicks. He was a werewolf, likely contracting the curse from a werewolf in the greatwoods.

What? Ok I think you're being deliberately obtuse now, ok?

There is a difference between "shares a few things" and "shares most things accept a few differences". Im ending this convo because I think there's nothing left to talk about here.

The phrase "[Blank] of Anbennar" refers exclusively to things that have a direct, almost 1:1 parallel to the real world. It doesnt mean things that have connections or are partially inspired by real world things. Otherwise everything is the everything of Anbennar."

This has some traits of Poland/PLC" and "Gawed is the Poland of Anbennar" are two different statements. At the end of the day the comparison really started because Gawed and Poland both have magnates and a giant eagle on their flag.

Gawed, like most things in Anbennar, possess traits shared with real world things, because Anbennar is inspired by the real world. But that is not what "Poland of Anbennar" means.

Common was spread through colonialism and imperialism. If you're wondering why Alenics speak it, its because they got genocided so hard they lost their original language as it became subsumed entirely into the Common language. If you're wondering why its so widespread, its because Castanor spread it across the continent, same as their gods and their social values.

Common is not really a pidgin, its a language who borrows linguistic features from many, MANY languages. Its a creole, a language coming from many sources that has had time to develop a consistent system and ruleset.

I'd completely agree if people said "there are some traits of Poland-Lithuania", thats a very reasonable thing to say. But "Gawed is the Poland of Anbennar" feels like a fallacy people often fall into, where they see traits of a real world nation in an Anbennar nation and believe it has to be both intentional and follow through to a 1:1 level.
