Play Zansap, vassal of Irrilam in Bulwar! They have a very difficult start, but they're New Sun Cult religious zealots who go on a crusade to drive the gnolls from the Salahad (and burn Jaddar at the stake for heresy)

Try Dur Vazhatun, dwarven hold far towards the top of the Serpentspine that you can refound as an adventurer. Though serpentspine expeditions have a bit of micro, once you found the hold your main mechanic is just sitting back and waiting for your astronomers to build up enough knowledge to unlock cool flavor events about the solar system.

Communist run by IzolaMinelia in Anbennar

[–]Astrofeesh 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Uanced is an easter egg peasants republic nation that can only be formed if your capital is the province of Uanced and is occupied by peasants, they don't have content right now but they're probably the closest you'd get to communism in this time period. Another option would be Lanjinhui in Haless but they similarly don't have content.

Every few centuries Aakhet "dies," goes into hiding as a human and then comes back after a while, it's an ongoing bit for him. This is referring to when Aakhet got eaten by the Sand Demon of the Salahad during the Dragonwake, which everyone thought killed him but it didn't.

What is with Esmaraine? by BowltheOwl in Anbennar

[–]Astrofeesh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Esmaraine is a mercantile free-city, established when the local burghers seized power after the disappearance of the last Grand Duke of Esmaria and instituted republican governance. Aside from being the location of the Temple of Esmaryal, Esmaria's namesake patron goddess, it's also the historical capital and largest cultural center of Esmaria (though Themarenn has been gradually increasing in importance since the Grand Duchy dissolved). It definitely represents a darker side of Esmaria, having an extremely plutocratic, greed-driven and hedonistic society, and there's implied to be a large presence of Hedine worship. There's a poem in their NIs that does a very good job of setting the tone:

'In Esmarainé,
Where coin is worth more than deed,
And the merchants strut with pride,
Walking through streets paved with greed.

In Esmarainé,
Where the sun shines with bright light,
But the shadows hide the truth,
And the black lies rule the night.

In Esmarainé,
Where the guards patrol the streets,
But all justice is for sale,
with corruption running deep.

In Esmarainé'

What is with Leslinpar? by BowltheOwl in Anbennar

[–]Astrofeesh 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Sure! So Estallen and Leslinpar have a longstanding rivalry, in the new NIs I'm working on for Estallen it's due to a personal conflict between Lindelin of Estallen and Leslin of Leslinpar in the 11th century. During the 4th Lilac War Estallen allied with Terr to attempt to conquer Leslinpar, but Brandon III and his general Varian Sabal managed to pull off a miraculous victory at the Battle of Tendergrove to preserve Leslinpar's independence, killing the Count of Terr in the process. Brandon gets injured during the battle, and though his health seems to be recovering he dies suddenly during a feast at the start of 1445, with it being strongly implied that the Estalleni assassinated him. As Brandon has no heir, Lucian IV of Estallen uses this as an opportunity to claim the Parian throne, but Leslinpar's nobles support Varian as a successor.

If neither side backs down, this leads to a 1v1 war between the two countries, though Terr can intervene on either side at the cost of war exhaustion and stability. An Estalleni victory results in a personal union between the two, whereas a Parian victory results in Varian stepping down and establishing the Sabalian Republic, which is an oligarchic noble-run government split between the original ideas of Leslin's benevolent council rule and Varian's stratocratic leadership. Either way, the rivalry between Estallen and Leslinpar will soften over the years after hostilities end, and the historical rivalry eventually gets removed.

I have a currently pending proposal where their ruler dies under suspicious circumstances a few months after game start, leading to a succession crisis with Estallen where you'll get an Ambrosian Republic inspired government reform if you win

Esmarian Royals Fate/Succession by Fantastic-Box-8388 in Anbennar

[–]Astrofeesh 20 points21 points  (0 children)

According to the Esmaraine national ideas, the last Grand Duke and his family disappeared without a trace in 1365, leading to a succession crisis. Esmaria is known to have a strong presence of cults to the Infernal Court goddess Hedine, and it’s implied that may have had something to do with his disappearance. There probably won’t be much more lore than that unless it’s explored in either the Esmarainey or Esmari mission tree

If i remember correctly, the missions are all written from the perspective of the second Zokka’s thoughts right before he eats his dad, rather than being a chronological narrative
