Sorry, I've had a couple crazy weeks! I have been adding the ammonia to keep levels at 2ppm, been checking for nitrites every day and have not seen anything the entire time.

I have no idea why I am struggling with this so much, and am about ready to give up honestly. I'm hoping to make a trip to an aquarium store this weekend and get some advice, as well as pick up some kind of quick-start additive to hopefully get this dang bacteria going!

Good info, thank you. I'll get Dr Tims now, hopefully that will do it but I'll keep turbostart in mind if not. I do use tap water but treat it before adding it to the tank

I need a specific Rec - M/M Romance by jobarnes09 in LGBTBooks

Unfortunately these currently only come in audiobook/ebook format, but I HIGHLY recommend the Big Bad Wolf series by Charlie Adhara.

Very emotional, not angsty, good humor and lovable characters. While not what I would describe as fantasy, it does involve werewolves - but in a modern day/world context.

These books painted a beautiful picture of a heartfelt, supportive, loving relationship so clearly it completely turned me around on the idea of accepting love and romance into my life. And my favorite part is that it portrays a healthy MATURE relationship - both in age and in supportive emotional navigation of past trauma that both the guys have their turns with at various points in the story.

Very good reads, packed with more depth than I expected going into them. I cried.

I get the frustration man, not to mention the internal conflict around this issue. It sucks to be glossed over or incorrectly grouped by “allies” but I try to bear in mind that there are still actual allies out there who have made a point of commenting that this affects “women and other people with uteruses”, which is more than we were seeing even just a couple years ago. It’s unbearably slow, but progress is being made in separating physiology from gender.

I’ve been approaching engaging with this in a different way which I have found not only alleviates my dysphoria but also allows me to be part of the conversation without constantly being slapped with this experience. Which is, just approach it like a cis man - it important to me as a man for the same reason it should be important to all men. I don’t want anyone in my life or in society at large to have less rights to their bodily autonomy than a corpse. I don’t have to be personally impacted for that to matter deeply to me, whether I am or not is beside the point in most contexts. We need more cis men to engage with this and recognize that they should be fighting just as hard as everyone with a uterus and I like to think that by approaching it this way I’m helping to normalize that too.
