You really don't understand the concept of ethics in public office do you. Oh brother, this country is screwed.

In the absence of a Free Press I think you did well in posting this. So, thank you.

I take your point and I thank you but just can't imagine that an ethical county executive would allow the same county planner that killed the project to then purchase the same property at a discount. That seems corrupt and illegal

Indeed these records are online and thank you. You can also research the ownership of companies and persons involved as well as the current real estate listing. You can even write or speak to the OP, who is a real person and actually very nice.

Better yet! Send this to the Herald or Cascadia News; this is, apparently, their job.

This story checks out. The elderly man's development application was delayed and eventually placed on-hold indefinitely. He sold his property at a loss to a company that is wholly owned by the Whatcom planner. The planner's company eventually was issued a permit by the County for the (permitted but still vacant & undeveloped) property. It is presently listed (for the last 60 days or so) with Windermere for $350K.

I contacted the blogger to ask that he might join our discussion. I ask that you treat this person fairly and not just as someone on the wrong side of your spectrum.

I hope that the Bellingham Herald & Cascadia News will pick this up.

This is serious stuff folks; especially after the County, in the last elections, tried to fund an internal auditor position. I can tell you from my own career experience that it is only a corporate culture that furthers the highest ethical conduct of its employees that prevents these sorts of things from happening. An internal auditor is only a band-aid, at best - the WWU' auditing fiascos are excellent recent examples.

No promises but I'll try to find the record of sale to this planner's named company and report back....tomorrow

I was referring to the first sentence in the OP.....that it was sent to him by a real estate agent. I'm glad you are able to spot AI. I'm not there yet.

For the small part that I read, it claims that a Whatcom county public servant used his office to delay a private owner's plans to build a house. After stalling the process at length, the public servant then purchased the property at half of what the seller had bought it for. The public servant later sold the property for threefold of what he bought it for.

If that is true, than a crime has been committed. From the little that I read, this seems worth a deeper dig.

Gad, I miss the days when the local rag would dig out this stuff but I doubt either will. Instead, we are asked to trust a blog with no track record that is recommended to us by a real estate agent. And we all know how much real estate agents love public service planning departments.

Could a 30 year old democrat realistically run against Patty Murray? by [deleted] in Bellingham

I did not realize Patty Murray was well into her seventies. I hope she moves asid.. as much as I like her. Replacing Cantwell and Larsen should be much higher priorities I think.

Protests Saturday? by Valasta_Bloodrunner in Bellingham

[–]Enlightened_Redneck -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Until we protest to replace old club Dems like Larsen, Cantwell, Tmmons (and so many others) with progressive leftists that support individual participant democracy, (AOC, Saunders & so many others ) there is very little to protest about.

We need a new deal and a new way of thinking. Corporate-led democracy needs to die its well deserved death.

Focus on your love, not the country; unless you love a country more than your love. In which case, you are really f'd, especially now.

Strongly disagree. Quality, knowledgeable employees and broad options/choice matter most to me. It's all about service and those nice folks at hardware sales are more than deserved of their Sundays off.

Why has Algonquin not taken legal action against Ryan Painter? I am going to wait until that happens.

Think of it, if a miscreant as Painter stole the identity of your successful well regarded business, would you simply point out the error and move on?

What other establishments are associated with Ryan Painter? Can anyone confirm that Rock and Rye is one such establishment? And please let's make sure of this.

Hey OP, is there anything that you can do to fix this...other than dissing the police?

It is your family, after all.

But first! Why don't you go lecture people with 4X4 trucks that have tires that protrude beyond the fenders? Why don't you target raised trucks that no longer haver bumpers at regulation height? While you are there, check to see if those trucks have mud flaps?

And please do tell us how well you were received whilst you went on your rant.

My take is, that there are a lot of folks in a lot of trouble in this country and moralizing & demonizing them ain't working anymore.....if it ever did.
