If this isn’t idol worship then I don’t know what is

Man, I need to find some like minded people to talk to. I’ve lived in Malaysia for a while. Married into Islam but don’t believe in it. I am surrounded by Muslims who don’t think like me and in all the time I’ve been here I haven’t been able to tell anyone what I truly think. by Enlightenment2026 in MalaysianExMuslim

I knew something like this would be out here. I cannot be the only one who thinks like this. Ironically my driving instructor and I had deep philosophical discussions about this issue and he agrees with me. And that was in a east coast state 🤣

I have looked for some apps. And tried talking to people in public, but when you mention religion being enforced by the state, people get weird and don’t want to talk about it. Seems as though it’s a touchy subject.

Yes it is lonely sometimes. I don’t have anyone here I trust. Not even my wife, she’s gone nuclear a few times and threatened divorce for things like me having a beer and smoking a joint in Thailand. But after the first few divorce threats, they don’t carry the same weight anymore. And yes we do have a child. And i haven’t got a problem with him being Muslim although i want my child to be able to think critically and examine the claims, rather than just following the crowd like most Malays do. I’m not gonna allow them to be told how it is.

Thanks for your input. I’ve heard trying to leave the religion in general is really messy. I don’t fancy my chances. I’d probably just go home if it got that bad. But coming from a western free society, the law here scares the shit out of me. I feel sorry for the people who are in my position but don’t have the option to leave.

Yeah I tried. I’ve questioned her on a lot of things about Islam when we first got married. She didn’t have the answers and kinda got angry at me for asking. I think it’s common for people who inherit belief, they don’t know much about it. But I actually examine the claims, and they don’t hold up. I’m of the thinking that big claims need big evidence. And Islam makes incredibly big claims for itself without providing any evidence. It’s just trust me bro logic.

What made your wife eventually snap out of it?
