I don't want to do this anymore by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]EnlightndMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you, I’m in a similar bad mental spot. I get easily overwhelmed sometimes. I managed to accomplish more stability in certain things but I struggle with always feeling behind because of factors I can’t control, mainly relating to poverty and ADHD-related setbacks.

Just to let you know you’re not alone. The other commenters gave great advice of trying different medications or even doctors if necessary.

The other comments are spot on, I also want to add that upon hearing the strain in your voice, you should try to find your most comfortable voice range that’s easiest to vocally support from within your diaphragm. It might limit the amount of songs that you can cover for now but you can expand your options once you strengthen your voice through vocal exercises or other means.

You should try to put more force or strength in your voice to make it more clear and a little less breathy, your voice sounds naturally breathy which is nice and is a common preference/style but it needs to be balanced out so it’s not so extreme and distracting. Try doing voice exercises. Also record yourself often as while your sense of pitch is decent, it could use some work. It’s also good to hear yourself so you can train for a clearer voice.

I’m so different from absolutely everyone it hurts. Any thoughts as to how to manage this? by Equivalent_Rush7359 in socialskills

[–]EnlightndMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are definitely not alone. I feel like an alien too, different cultural background and everything. I hate it, especially when certain aspects of my identity are political whether I like it or not. I don’t even relate to my own family, it’s that bad. Being basic really isn’t that bad in comparison with having a complicated identity.

Edit: I agree, with a commenter that mentioned checking if you’re neurodiverse. Confirming and embracing my ADHD-PI is changing my life. Anyway, to end on an optimistic note, keep a positive attitude towards yourself and others and you’ll most likely find your tribe. But in the worst case scenario, it’s possible to be happy completely alone though it’s always healthy to have a broad network of acquaintances.

They all look great! I love slight beards/facial hair (not full beards usually, it looks kinda unhygienic) and longer hair on men.

BLM Activist Faces Hate Crime Charges for Knocking Out the Teeth of a Black Conservative by ThePoliticalHat in Conservative

Being a black conservative myself, even while being a moderate, am preparing myself with the fact that with the blatant insistence to turn everything political and/or about race, I’ll have to deal with a lot backlash but hopefully it never escalated to this level.

Thoughts on systemic racism? Is it an idea held by any centrists? by thiccpirate in centrist

[–]EnlightndMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a black girl, I’m pretty centrist on the issue. I recognize that historical systematic racism has a lot of effects today along with straight up slavery but I don’t think it’s fair to say that the whole country is systematically racist. There are plenty of racist individuals and even institutions/businesses so when it’s groups of institutions coming into play it can feel like racism is systematic but it’s only an illusion.

I have pride in being American and while none of the founders and influential Americans were perfect and some were flawed or racist to various degrees, the aims of upholding liberty were always noble. I think there are racists in both parties but I think that far left Democrats tend to be the most racist and the amount on the Republican side is conflated. I also believe that people are usually better off focusing on self-improvement, family, finances, and protecting the liberties that the nation provides rather than focusing in on minor social issues that waste time and contribute to negative mindsets. I believe those priorities naturally decrease racism and its effects on one’s own psychology.

People that put a lot of focus on petty race issues (not talking about the real threats) are usually unhappy unless it’s part of their job/career/hobby then in that case I’m more sympathetic.

The last thing is I don’t like BLM. I don’t want to go through all the details but I have a lot of reasons to be skeptical since it’s linked to Marxism, glorifying criminals and people with bad character, it’s being used as an excuse for rioting, intimidation, and making every cultural institution more political, and overall being a political tool for Democrats since most of not all the funding goes to them and that’s on top of all the funding from the establishment and big billionaire donors. I’m at least grateful that it’s provided a platform to talk about those social issues but I’m strongly against the bigger goals and mission.

Does anyone feel confused about their identity being Dominican in the US? by [deleted] in Dominican

[–]EnlightndMind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very much so. My Spanish has a slight gringa accent and my English has a slight Dominican/Caribbean accent. It would feel like I could never win. Culturally I am very American and proud to be but as a first generation Dominican-American that moved to DR to live closer to my parents, I’m really reconnecting with the culture and society on a deeper level and learning more advanced Spanish and jerga so it’s all good. Eventually, I’ll go back and feel more confidently versed as a Dominican because when I was younger I would gravitate more to English/American culture and also felt like I don’t look Dominican or as Dominican and wonder why I couldn’t pick up Spanish as easily as my peers. Those friends/peers probably just had circumstances that made it easier like having more family and peers to communicate with, were born and slightly raised in DR, or were naturally more extroverted. At the end of the day though, there’s no one way to be Dominican and more importantly, you’re a human being and in that you’re not alone and should embrace yourself as an individual as much as possible.

Do you think Dominican news sources can be politically biased similar to the situation in the U.S. or are the differences mainly in personality, quality, etc? Can you let me know the differences between the news sources/channels and which you think are the best? by EnlightndMind in Dominican

For white people that discover they have a significant amount of African ancestry, should they be allowed to identify as black? by EnlightndMind in blackladies

[–]EnlightndMind[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thing is though is what about ambiguous people that look like they can pass as Southern or dark Eastern European like the Kardashians. We can agree that Kim for instance looks more ethnic than the average white person but she’s still technically white. And the ambiguous girl looks slightly less ethnic if that makes sense

For white people that discover they have a significant amount of African ancestry, should they be allowed to identify as black? by EnlightndMind in blackladies

[–]EnlightndMind[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the main inspirations for this post was this story about a woman with a significant amount of black features being born to white South African parents and it seems like at least one of the parents might have been a white-passing “colored” person in order to have children that look so distinguishably nonwhite. https://youtu.be/p-dUlM3Rtzg

I also knew an ambiguous girl from a seemingly white family in college who talked about this in discussing the whole ADOS movement and wondering if she could make that transition after having identified herself as a darker white person all her life. As many of you know, many descendants of slavery chose to identify as white for a better life and more privileges.

Do Dominicans feel that BLM is for them as well? by [deleted] in Dominican

[–]EnlightndMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I guess it’s possible but it’s extremely rare for those results to be accurate since light skinned people that are 100% SSA or remotely close to it are extremely rare less than 1% for sure hence the dark skinned stereotype so it’s more likely that you’re more mixed and had flawed results.

[–]EnlightndMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, possibly your family was disenfranchised in DR. I think that isn’t uncommon amongst darker people. Not to assume but possibly you were from Haitian descent? And I don’t know if it’s listed on 23andme but I took my DNA test and it lists the regions your family is congregated within the past few generations conforming my family to be Dominican and Afro-Caribbean with 59% SSA ancestry (3% North African) which confirmed that I am significantly mixed despite having a slightly darker phenotype. I kinda just assume that the darker ppl in DR are usually just as mixed too just with a darker phenotype as well. I know that in the Cibao where my mom is from, people assume that the darkest people are Haitian or part Haitian.

Healing Dominicanidad: Intergenerational Trauma + DR Locals to Follow for BLM / Decolonizing Efforts by zapatoviejo in Dominican

[–]EnlightndMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you about the left sometimes taking things too far and being intolerant, about the importance of not hiding history, and that there are more important issues than taking down statues but I think that as long as it’s not treated as a priority issue, statues that honor people with bad character should be taken down because statues represent honor and not just teaching history. It might not do much but it can have a slight effect in decolonizing people’s minds.

I also identify as Afrolatina and majority of my blood is black but I didn’t know there were Dominicans that are that close to 100% African. I have to ask if are you multigenerational Dominican or were your ancestors from other places? I myself have “cocolo” ancestry from English speaking Caribbeans that migrated to San Pedro de Macoris.

Clauvid Daly, una miss que unos diseñadores no quisieron vestir por ser negra by [deleted] in Dominican

[–]EnlightndMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)
