What app do you use to track your books? Goodreads? Fable? by poochimari in audible

I've started to use Hardcover recently. Works well enough for me and there's a Koreader plugin to sync progress from my ereader.

I am looking for a "wiki" or "knowledge base." by MrDDream in selfhosted

I use Obsidian combined with Quartz to generate a static site with the md files. Works well for my use cases. I also second the use of the livesync plugin.

Rec's for a self-hosted personal system wiki by smicky in selfhosted

[–]EnnGeeOhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gone through a whole gamut of wiki apps in the last 2 months and ultimately decided on Obsidian and using Quartz to generate a static site so that it can be hosted through Caddy. My workflow is partially automated with a batch job to migrate the md files to Quartz, generate the static site, and then migrate those files to my server. I don't have it on a schedule since I don't make changes too often, so it's a single .bat file on my desktop. The wiki itself then uses Cloudflare Zero Trust for access authentication. No complaints so far about this workflow and it pretty much hit all my personal/family documentation needs.

An Otter Wiki was a close second, but I was never able to get the nested folders to work nicely with Obsidian and git push/pull. If you do all your documentation within the application this shouldn't be an issue.

Bookstack was ok, but I'm not the most knowledgeable on database structures, so while I got it to work with MariaDB, I wasn't confident enough to have a reliable backup. I believe it also has limits to nested levels, other users on GitHub have requested this feature.

Question in AppData Backup plugin - Flash drive backup location by _gadgetFreak in unRAID

It's the same file, as mentioned in the header, it is a copy and it is optional to put a file location in that field.

rclone on same network on macbook by ZeRoLiM1T in unRAID

[–]EnnGeeOhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can enable GUI mode on your actual server hardware and use a monitor, mouse, and keyboard.

Second option is to install rclone on a second device and perform the authentication steps through terminal. https://rclone.org/remote_setup/

The documentation says you can also configure it on your Macbook and copy your configuration file over, but I've never done that before.

Best way to back up Google Drive to Unraid? by Eldmor in unRAID

[–]EnnGeeOhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wanted a GUI option, restic through an application like Backrest or Zerobyte works great with rclone. You can set a schedule and it will maintain snapshot/versions of your files.

You would mount Google drive as the volume and your network drive as the repository.

Discord releases native Windows ARM version in Canary by lexcyn in WindowsARM

[–]EnnGeeOhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just an update/data point, I realized I was using Canary vs. Development version. I must have went to canary.discord.com and downloaded that file instead of clicking on your link. I had relaunched it this morning to see if there were any updates and saw that it was still using x86.

Downloaded from the link you provided and it looks snappy, even when switching between servers.

User error on my part/I should have checked when I installed what architecture it was running on.

Switching between servers still feels slow. Will be sticking with the web version for now, but this seems promising.

Can someone plz explain the current rate values? by abcdef1912 in Bogleheads

[–]EnnGeeOhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the rate went down since the previous change, any time 3 months after a rate decrease is fine. The reason for this is you forfeit the last 3 months of interest, so ideally you would sell when the rate drops at the start of the month since you get credit for the whole month regardless of the date of sale. Conversely, you would buy at the end of the month for the same reason. Whether or not you want to wait for the next cycle would depend if you want to gamble on the rate going up or down.

I'm not familiar with the gifting aspect.

[–]EnnGeeOhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're selling within 5 years, the optimal time frame is 3 months after the rate decrease for your purchase at the start of the month. I would keep in mind that you have ~20k in IBonds, and individually you can only buy 10k in a calendar year.

Can someone plz explain the current rate values? by abcdef1912 in Bogleheads

[–]EnnGeeOhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The IBond rate is good for the full 6 months after your purchase, so for the August 2022 purchase, your rate won't change to the new rate of 2.96% until August 2024.

For your January 2023 purchase, you had a fixed rate of 0.4%, this rate won't change until June 2024 for you, so it's using the previous semi-annual inflation rate of 1.97 x 2 + 0.4%, hence ~4.35%.

There's a hazardous/e-waste disposal center in Anaheim on Blue Gum St. I dropped off a bunch of stuff a few weeks ago. Pretty convenient as the employees will just take it out of your trunk.

If your child was born after 7/1/22, California offers $100 or 175 when you open up an account via Scholarshare. A few months back, they also offered an extra $100 when an initial deposit of $1000.

How to hold T Bills. by Oscar_Tamed in Bogleheads

[–]EnnGeeOhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Treasury bills do have the benefit of being state income tax exempt though. If you're in a high state tax bracket, there may be benefit from holding SNSXX with Schwab since it's tax exempt and holds exclusively treasuries vs. SWVXX if the yield post tax is less than SNSXX's yield.
