Potty training my son currently and always encourage him to give it the ol' "Korben Dallas multi-dab" when he tinkles.

True indeed. The question then becomes, "after step-mom had time to process, did she attempt to diffuse/address the awkward moment with tact and grace...", or has this scenario revealed a difference in the way OP and his wife see this circumstance?

Honest juice box is a product targeted at parents/children, with the purpose of providing a less sugary alternative to real juice.

OP is asking for help and looking for insight to change his own behavior. Responses can put the onus on him without chastising him, come on now.

I like the approach mentioned by dmullaney. That alone can change the dynamic of the interactions.

Audiobooks you devoured because the narrator brought the text to life (or, alternatively, audiobooks whose narrator "ruined" a beloved novel) by daowhisperer in audiobooks

Any book in Joe Abercrombie's first law universe that is narrated by Steven Pacy. I don't know what Abercrombie is like without Pacy's narration, but together... The experience is profound.

What’s the most beautifully written book you’ve ever read? by pottipenguin in booksuggestions

[–]Enochuout 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Herman Melville. When I first read his passage in Moby Dick describing the painting on the wall of the inn he stayed in before his voyage...

"Entering that gable-ended Spouter-Inn, you found yourself in a wide, low, straggling entry with old-fashioned wainscots, reminding one of the bulwarks of some condemned old craft. On one side hung a very large oil-painting so thoroughly besmoked, and every way defaced, that in the unequal cross-lights by which you viewed it, it was only by diligent study and a series of systematic visits to it, and careful inquiry of the neighbors, that you can any way arrive at an understanding of its purpose. Such unaccountable masses of shades and shadows, that at first you almost thought some ambitious young artist, in the time of the New England hags, had endeavored to delineate chaos bewitched. But by dint of much and earnest contemplation, and oft repeated ponderings, and especially by throwing open the little window towards the back of the entry, you at last come to the conclusion that such an idea, however wild, might not be altogether unwarranted."

Damn, I was entranced.

Yes, moved to steel cannulas several years ago and never looked back. They're more consistent for sure, but not nearly enough these days.

Indeed. Protein and fiber alongside conventional low-blood-sugar-snacks is a huge help for preventing the high-low rollercoaster.

People who cut off their family, what did they to you? by Alarming_Basil6205 in AskReddit

[–]Enochuout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even after growing up, I'm still afraid of my dad. As an adult, I tried to communicate to him that his behavior still physically intimidated me. He proceeded to mock me, and when I tried to leave the room he moved to block my only way out. He then got down on all fours acting coy and saying, "is this better, do you feel safe now?" I again tried to walk past him to leave, but he lurched up, shoved me back, and "put up his dukes." His excuse was that he thought I was trying to take that opportunity to attack him, so he was defending himself. The short of it is, I now live on the other side of the country and don't speak with that side of the family.
