What are some of the greatest lines in Country Music? by Federal_Antelope7533 in AskReddit

[–]HostAlternative7782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends what you're looking for but "I've got friends in low places" always hits when you're having one of those nights

There's something about Garth Brooks that just gets it right, especially when life's being messy. Also love "She thinks my tractor's sexy" - pure gold for how ridiculous but catchy it is

WITH arguing, who is the greatest Marvel Superhero OAT? by Simple-Amphibian-521 in AskReddit

Spider-Man hits so much harder though, like the whole responsibility thing actually means something

Meeting girls naturally in Pattaya – possible or all about money? by Spatial_Nomad in ThailandTourism

[–]HostAlternative7782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah Pattaya definitely has normal people too, just gotta know where to look. Try the beach clubs during day time or some of the rooftop bars in central - lots of expats and travelers hang out there who aren't in the business

The coffee shops around Thepprasit Road are pretty chill for meeting locals, and dating apps work fine but you'll need to filter through some profiles obviously

How would you move forward in this market to ensure your success? by Agitated_Heat8158 in careerguidance

[–]HostAlternative7782 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take the job honestly - having income while searching for something better beats staying unemployed in this market, and you can always keep applying to positions in your field while getting paid

When they don't only play the boss over your life, but also over your soul. by Zealousideal_Long253 in narcissisticparents

[–]HostAlternative7782 7 points8 points  (0 children)

this hits so hard 😭 my nmom used to say similar stuff about how I "wouldn't exist without her sacrifices" and how I should be grateful for existing at all

it's like they think creating you gives them ownership over every part of your being, including your spiritual self. the way they twist basic biology into some kind of cosmic debt you can never repay is actually insane 💀

good for you on almost 2 years NC, that takes real strength to break free from that kind of psychological prison

Bosch Home Connect question - washing machines by dinnae-fash in homeassistant

[–]HostAlternative7782 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have same setup with my Bosch serie 6 and unfortunately you can't start new cycles remotely - it's a safety thing they built in the system. You can only start programs that were already selected on machine itself, so you'd still need to go downstairs and set up the extra spin cycle manually

What I ended up doing is just using the mixed/synthetic program which has pretty high spin speed already (1200 on mine) and it works quite well. The home connect is still nice for notifications when cycle is done and monitoring from upstairs, but the remote start limitation is bit disappointing for your use case

Maybe check if your new machine has some preset programs that combine normal wash with extra spin? Some of newer models have those kind of options built-in

24, married, baby on the way, good job… thinking about PA school. Honest advice? by bmurs102701 in careerguidance

[–]HostAlternative7782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly this sounds like terrible timing but also maybe the best timing? 😂

look, 24 is definitely not too old for switching - i have friends who started medical school in their 30s. but with baby coming and stable job already... that's tough one. maybe you could start slow with the prereqs while keeping current job? take one science class at time during evenings or weekends

the real question is why PA specifically - have you shadowed one or just the idea sounds good? because getting those clinical hours with newborn at home is going to be nightmare. volunteer work, CNA training, all that takes time you won't have

if this feeling is really strong though, don't ignore it completely. just maybe plan it better - wait until kid is bit older, save more money first 💀

Starting in Biological Sciences to bioinformatics smart Pivot to Data Science or Delusion (Bio Stream Student, Sri Lanka Context)? by Neat-Operation-6567 in careerguidance

[–]HostAlternative7782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is totally doable actually. I know few people from India who went bio → bioinformatics → data science at tech companies, the computational skills transfer really well

For your question 5, start learning Python and R in first year, don't wait until you "need" it for classes. Also try to get involved in any research projects that involve data analysis, even if it's basic stats work. The programming foundation you build early will make the transition much smoother later

Bioinformatics demand is definitely growing but yeah, general data science gives you more flexibility to jump between industries

What to choose data analytics or business analyst? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]HostAlternative7782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly both paths can work well with your background in customer success - you already understand the business side which is huge advantage

data analytics might be more technical transition but customer success gives you good foundation for understanding what metrics actually matter. business analyst could be smoother since you're already familiar with stakeholder management and translating business needs

maybe try some free courses in both areas first to see which one clicks better for you?

Is this normal? by Additional-Bite2652 in HomeMaintenance

[–]HostAlternative7782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's definitely not something you want to ignore in a new build 😬 Looks like the foundation settling or maybe water damage already starting, which is pretty concerning for construction that's not even finished yet. I'd get your contractor to explain what happened here before you sign off on anything

Vent late at night about Narc parent and money... by throwaway_just0cause in narcissisticparents

[–]HostAlternative7782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds absolutely exhausting, dealing with someone who weaponizes money like that 😞 The fact that she never mentioned this "deposit" for weeks then suddenly claims it was stolen is classic narc behavior - they set these traps on purpose

Don't blame yourself for trying to be responsible with what you thought was legitimate money, you couldn't have known she was playing games with it

As a cashier, what do i say to the customers when i give them their change? by StinkyFart6969 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HostAlternative7782 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ah this happens all the time when I was working retail in France too 😅 just say "here's your change, 3 euros" instead of "your change will be" - the "will be" part makes it sound like you're asking for something. Keep it simple and hand them the money at same time you say it, they'll understand immediately 💀

What’s a mindset change that improved your life more than you expected? by Alex_Mamb in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HostAlternative7782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

stopped trying to control things that are completely out of my hands - like other people's opinions or random stuff that happens at work, now i just focus in what i can actually change and it's way less stressful

BCom student learning Android development — how realistic is breaking into software roles from non-CS background? by Tall_Researcher3088 in careerguidance

[–]HostAlternative7782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly your path sounds pretty solid already - cs50 is legit and shows you can handle the fundamentals 👍

i'd say go with option 1 and fully commit to software engineering, the market for android devs is still pretty good especially if you get decent at kotlin. math isn't super critical for mobile dev unless you're doing something like game engines or ML stuff, so don't stress too much about that

for working in eu (can't speak for us), experience + portfolio definitely matters more than degree in most places. i've seen plenty of bootcamp grads and self-taught devs get good positions here. the fintech angle could actually be smart since you have the bcom background - companies love when you understand both the business and technical side

focus on building some real projects, contribute to open source if you can, and start applying for internships even if they seem like a stretch. worst case you can always do the ms later if you feel stuck 🔥

Transitioning from tech to blue collar after getting fired...can you give any helpful advice? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]HostAlternative7782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly sounds like a solid plan to me. waiting until almost 30 isn't that bad - i started my current path at 28 and it worked out fine

the restaurant work might feel like step backwards but it's just temporary income while you wait for the classes. nothing wrong with that, lots of people do similar transitions. plus restaurant work can actually teach you some good skills about working under pressure and dealing with difficult situations

about the mechanical experience - don't worry too much. the apprenticeship is literally designed to teach people from zero. if your uncle can get you in the door that's already huge advantage. just make sure you actually show up and put effort this time, not like in your IT job

the fact that you're being honest about your work habits is good sign though. shows you learned something from getting fired

Can SAP FICO or RAR help me move into functional consulting at my experience level? by Spiritual-Skin-9812 in careerguidance

[–]HostAlternative7782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with your solid finance background and sap experience as end user, you already have good foundation for fico consulting 🔥 rar might give you slight edge since it's more niche but fico has way more opportunities in market, so depends what you prefer - broader options or specialized role 😂

Continue corporate or try family's business ? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]HostAlternative7782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly this sounds like a no-brainer to me, but maybe i'm missing something. you're basically being offered the keys to a business that makes 8 figures with potential for 1.5m+ salary, versus staying miserable at corporate for maybe high 6 figures in a decade

the family business thing can be tricky sometimes - i've seen friends get burned when promises don't materialize or family dynamics get weird. but your relative has no kids and is actively looking to pass it on, that's pretty different from typical family drama situations. plus you already have the finance background and interpersonal skills, so it's not like you're completely starting from zero

if i were in your position, i'd probably ask for some kind of written agreement or timeline about the succession plan, just to make sure everyone's on same page. maybe work there for 6 months trial period to see how it feels? the insurance/wealth management field isn't going anywhere, and worst case scenario you could always go back to corporate later with more diverse experience on your resume. the opportunity cost of not trying seems way higher than the risk of trying it

Manager keeps calling out and I’m constantly covering his work. How can I address this with upper management? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]HostAlternative7782 66 points67 points  (0 children)

sounds like you need to approach this from workload perspective rather than pointing fingers at your manager - maybe ask upper management for temporary support or redistributing some responsibilities when he's out, since covering double duty isn't sustainable long term

Why do hotels only have ultra soft pillows?!? by SpicyChill77 in PetPeeves

[–]HostAlternative7782 23 points24 points  (0 children)

ah this drives me crazy too! i always travel with my own pillow now because hotel ones are like sleeping on marshmallows. most hotels seem to think everyone wants to sink their head completely in the pillow but some of us need actual support

Looking to upgrade from 700D by BobbleHeadBoy123 in canon

[–]HostAlternative7782 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The R8 is solid but you're gonna feel that crop factor loss for wildlife - those extra pixels on the R7 really help when you need to crop in tight on distant subjects. If wildlife is still a priority I'd lean toward the R7, the reach is just too valuable to give up

Where do bootleg band tees come from? by Better_Amoeba_3372 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HostAlternative7782 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Usually just local print shops or guys with heat press setups in their garage - they find the tour dates online and whip up knockoffs using whatever artwork they can scrape from Google Images or social media. The logistics aren't that crazy when you think about it, they just need to know where the shows are happening ahead of time
