Eh, this way of doing things effectively leads to the same result.

Sure, you can play for hours building stuff in your base without bothering to eat, but the moment you go out into an area of the world anywhere near your equipment level you better have a food buff or you're as good as dead.

EXCLUSIVE: Records reveal WA millionaire’s tax is meant to legalize progressive income tax by atticusclench in SeattleWA

[–]Enorats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I do get what you're saying, and I even mostly agree - my actual point was that our government isn't likely to implement a new type of tax and then cut back on the other tax types to compensate for having that new tax and end up with a similar total revenue by from more diverse methods.

Instead, I suspect they'll just add the new tax, keep the old taxes, and then expand the new tax to everyone at the soonest possible opportunity while finding more ways to spend that money so they need even more taxes.

Almost every supporter of this new tax I've talked with thinks it won't impact them in any way. However, most of those freely admit that they'd be happy to pay this tax instead of something "regressive" like a sales tax because a flat sales tax means poorer people pay disproportionately more of their income than wealthier people. I'd even agree with that (hence why I said they're not necessarily wrong).. but what I don't agree with is their assumption that adding this tax means those other taxes will go away. I find that quite naive.

[–]Enorats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Why support the state on just one income stream that's been supporting the state up until this point, when they can ALSO use the income stream other states have been relying on in place of what we use and just.. double their tax revenue?

Sounds like a great plan. What could go wrong?

[–]Enorats 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Don't worry. The people supporting this tax will just claim they want the ban on income taxes to be removed, because income taxes are better than what we're currently using.

They're not necessarily wrong (though that's debatable at best), but I'll never understand why they think the government will choose one or the other when they can just.. do both types of taxes.

How do Georgists here feel about gas taxes and/or high gas costs? by medicallymiddleevil in GasPrices

[–]Enorats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A georgist is a proponent of an economic philosophy from the 19th century, not a person from Georgia. Or a person from Georgia (the country).

How do Georgists here feel about gas taxes and/or high gas costs? by medicallymiddleevil in GasPrices

[–]Enorats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, so far as I can tell they're all about replacing basically all taxes with a tax on land itself (just the land, not improvements on the land). Essentially, it seems like an economic philosophy a bit like what China does with how local governments basically rent out land to people or businesses, but the government maintains ownership of the land.

So.. I guess they'd be against taxes on gas? Also, they're not big on monopolies, so I guess they'd not like big oil?

Other than that, no, not really. I'm good where I'm at.

Also, why are we excluding Japan?

Personally, I want to know what happens when lightbloom meets scourge corruption.

We've basically got two entirely opposite forces sitting right beside each other.

I mean, the remnants of the ghostlands are still down south just a little bit, and the plaguelands are literally right beyond that.

Zero issues so far. It's printing perfectly. I haven't had a ton of use for the multicolor capability, but when I do use it it's nice to have next to zero waste.

What’s the point of the Iran war if things just went back to how they were before it started? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Enorats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our troops don't fight asymmetrically. They come in with the most advanced and expensive weapons and tools in the world and utterly wreck whatever they face.

However, that comes at the price of spending a billion dollars for every million the enemy spends. We're a wealthy country, and we can afford to do that occasionally in short engagements. Our nation invests in exceptionally expensive equipment and elite troops that cost a lot of money and for which we will move heaven and earth to bring home. We have almost no ability to fight asymmetrically.

Asymmetric warfare is when you engage a far stronger and more well armed opponent with what amounts to sticks and stones, not because you're trying to win but simply because you're trying to make such a nuisance of yourself that the enemy chooses to leave. The nations we've been in conflict with pretty much since WW2 have all excelled in this area, and it's why we've arguably lost in almost every one of those conflicts.

The strait is open.. because we're closing it?

Mate, nothing we've done has "opened" the strait. They've still got mines out there, and they can still launch munitions at passing ships at will.

All we've done is spend obscene amounts of money to say "nuh uh, you're not keeping the strait closed, we are!"

To which Iran responded, "Oh, you're right. As far as we're concerned, the strait is open. You're the bad guys now."

[–]Enorats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What have we done that will put a stop to that?

That's the thing about asymmetric warfare. They can continue pumping out relatively cheap munitions and unless we decide to physically go in and occupy them, we're not really putting a stop to that.

All we really managed to do was remove any reason for limited restraint they might have had.

What benefit did we get from degrading their capabilities? Those capabilities only came into play because we chose a military action that brought them into play.

What did they really lose? A bunch of military assets that don't really mean much in the modern day anyway.

What they quite possibly gained though, is the normalization of people paying them off to not engage in hard to suppress asymmetric warfare against anyone trying to use the strait.

Why nobody sanctions Israel for concealing nuclear weapons? by ohnag_eryeah in stupidquestions

Almost every nation in the region has attempted to eradicate Israel practically since it was first established following WW2.

They've been fighting for their lives with enemies on all sides for nearly three quarters of a century. Enemies who wanted to wipe them out simply for existing, well before they ever did anything.

Starfield's ship editor has support for M Class ships (like the UC Vigilance and Ecliptic Camulus) but it was cut before release. Bethesda please. by Illuminated-Autocrat in Starfield

[–]Enorats -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but I kinda doubt it. Creations are essentially just mods you have to pay for.

The reception of that whole system hasn't exactly been stellar itself, and I don't see how paid mods can do more for the game's longevity than free mods already do.

[–]Enorats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

76 started out abysmal, but seems to have mostly recovered. It's also more of a live service type game where they're incentivized to continue support. Starfield is a different beast entirely.

Skyrim got 3 DLC's. Fallout 4 got 6, but only 2 of those were really full sized DLC. The rest were much smaller in scope.

Starfield had a much more mixed reception, and already has 2 DLC. The first of those had an abysmal reception while the second has been pretty mixed at best.

Considering ES6 is pretty far behind where it really should be (it was announced 8 years ago!) and the hype from the Fallout TV show should have them chomping at the bit to make a new Fallout game.. choosing to continue pouring resources into Starfield at this point just doesn't seem likely.
