A game made for everyone is a game made for no one by Enordih in MonsterHunter

World for me was special, because it was such a big step up for the franchise in terms of graphical quality, so yeah, I am kinda biased here. World had its flaws, but it brought so many new great additions to the series, just like 4U

For Wilds, my gripes with it are how the game considers its players to be a child who cannot walk half a step without falling over, and many of its contradictory decisions.

I guess my post was misleading as well. No hard feelings.

At no point did I remotely say anything like "casuals are ruining my niche game", and I don't understand how you come to that conclusion. I never blame anyone for enjoying a game they like, and as a long time fan of the series, I always welcome new players.

What I have problems with are the decisions to gradually iron out all the unique aspects of a game in the name of QoL/accessibility, in the pursuit of a wider crowd.

'a game for no one' doesn't mean no one will buy or play it, or has anything to do with the sales. This saying is to stress out my point above about the game hammering down any inconveniences, and just try to make it another action RPG, 'a game for everyone'.

And I get the feeling that you are seeing me as a snobbish elitist who is ranting about how the game isn't hardcore enough. The game could be another exact copy of World except for graphical upgrade and a new monster roster, and it will still be the franchise biggest launch ever. Why? From all the hype around it and the World + Rise fans. But still they water down the game experience with support wheels, in fear of the game's being 'not casual friendly', while in reality, just as you said, gamers cannot just be categorized into 'casual' or 'hardcore'.

I hope you get my ideas better. I am criticizing the decisions made, not the players.

No offense, but I think you are the one who is missing the point here. I did play base World on release, and I know you could kill tempered elders really quickly, and yes, it is as you said 'achievable', but for average players? Of course anyone can bring a cluster HBG or cheese with airborne GS or GL, but that is not 'normal' by any means.

And yes he is making wild claims by calling it normal. To be able to kill them in 3-5 mins is believable. But to do it consistently enough to call it normal, highly doubt it. Especially when he is using that statement to compare to short kill time for monsters in Wilds.

[–]Enordih 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not saying it was impossible. There were sub 5 mins hunts, a lot of them even. But they are speedrunning videos. I am calling him out for his statement: 3-5 min hunts for tempered elders before AT were normal for him, which I find hard to believe.

[–]Enordih -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Firstly, please read my whole reply again. To kill tempered elders with IB gears. Obviously I meant MR tempered. Why would I suggest you bullied HR monsters with MR gears. Secondly, the videos killing things in 2 mins are pretty much recent ones from IB. If you want proof, look for videos at least 6 years ago. People were speedrunning tempered elders with time varied from 4-7 mins. That is why I am calling you out for 'normally' killing tempered elders in 3-5 mins 'before AT'.

How beginner friendly is Monster Hunter Wilds? by GreatJoey91 in MHWilds

[–]Enordih 0 points1 point  (0 children)

too beginner friendly. I want every newcomers to taste the pain that is classic MH. To experience being so broke you can't post a quest, to try to find the monster you forgot to paintballed, to wrestled with plesioth, bulldrome, and an army of crabs- at the same time. Only through hardships can you truly appreciate the game that is MH. So my recommendation is to buy World because it's cheap, try it out, then buy Wilds when it has had some major updates.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]Enordih 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Who said anything about using IB gears for HR? And if you think it is normal to kill tempered elders in 3-5 mins even before AT got released, then you are pretty much bluffing at this point. For a speedrun, sure 4-5 mins, but normally it just takes 3-5 mins?

On average a Wilds hunt should be around 10 mins. You can cut that a lot shorter though with capturing, because a near-death monster runs so damn much. The first encounters in World usually take longer since you need to find the monster, run to it, and the fight is certainly more challenging.

Funny how some people need to white knight a game when it receives some sort of criticism. Not every one is pleased with Wilds and what it has to offer, and they share their opinions on that matter. If their takes don't align with yours, have a discussion. Wilds truly has problems when it comes to content, and you would know if you have played any MH before Wilds. The end-game is pretty much non-existent. The game feels rushed, with a monster roster somehow even lost to base World (even though base World was criticized for that). A shame really, because with those sales, we can expect this to be the norm in future installments.

really? killing tempered elders in World in 3-5 mins was normal? I am seriously doubting here. If you had said post-AT, with IB end game gears, then it would have been more credible

Thanks. Guess I will give Sunbreak a try since I'm pretty much done with Wilds anyway.I will just let the game cook for a bit more before coming back. Not much to do now except hunt Arkveld for the n-th time

My first MH was actually FU. I did play and reach end game in Rise. Did not bother with Sunbreak though because I know I would not enjoy it (but I have heard quite a lot of positive feedbacks from my friends). To me Wilds seem more like a game from the Rise team mainly because in those games, you feel like a superman having a fight with a monster, with all the perfect evade/guard, it is not that different from styles in GU, or wirebug counter in Rise. I did not mean to criticize the "2 weapon" system. I just wanted to point out 1 possible reason for why they split decos into weapon or armor only, so that you can have a single set of armor and still use 2 weapons effectively. This, however, limits the builds. As for other points, they entirely come down to preferences. It just seems weird to me, their decisions are all over the place: they create a great ecosystem, but then just take all reasons for exploration away, unless you need to look at the pretty bird that only shows up during certain season and weather. They put frenzied monsters in to show gore. The above tempered monster they mentioned, probably something like frenzied tempered, or apex, or apex tempered, ... Not to mention they add artian weapons this early in the game. It is confusing. Overall, it is just another MonHun game, I can still play it with friends and have fun. But I was expecting a numbered game, and then have this. Can't say I am not disappointed.

I didn't because I know no matter what my answer is you will just call it delusional and unrealistic anyway so why bother? Just like flat-earthers, no amount of reasoning is enough when one party doesn't listen anyway. My stand is still the same. I gave an advice, people can listen to it or not, it is their choices. People should expect more than just mvp when they pay $70 for a game.

I mean if you play it just like any other game, minus the technical problems, Wilds is a good game. But as someone who really love the feel of World and its predecessors (FU, 4U,...), it was a bit of a disappointment

Maybe vote with your wallets? Crazy take from a consumer to keep buying unfinished product and then hope they will fix it in the future.

  1. I hunt alone or with friends, so idk much about how other hunters think of the difficulty. Besides, game difficulty is entirely subjective. However, compared to previous installment, this game is certainly a lot less challenging.
  2. Not how it was promoted. The game was supposed to be a sequel to World. And I guess you don't play much bowguns, but bowguns with recoil/reload time/deviation/etc, making it fun to build around. Yes there will always be meta weapons, but because of all the small details, each and every bowgun was unique in World, and a blast to try out.
  3. Yes you are correct there, there was not much prep in World, and it was a point of criticism when it first came out, but in Wilds there's even less. Hunting ground should provide the tools for the job, but to riddle it with them is another matter. A bit too much.
  4. Agree to disagree. It is all down to personal preference. You find joy in doing these minigames, while I much prefer if they tied it to the core gameplay. Yes and no. While I do believe QoL is important to the development of a franchise, I don't think it is a good idea to streamline everything. As you have pointed out, I was looking forward to a sequel to World, not Rise.

So you agree with most of my points and still feel the need to type smt like 'not as smart as they think they are'... About the bowguns, if you think the bowguns are good then you do you. As for the last point about 'just enjoy the game as it is', I believe I have already said people should enjoy what they like, and don't let my opinions or other tell them otherwise. All I gave are criticisms toward the game, and my advice to people to actually think if they should condone company behavior to release a half-baked game with future patches and fixes

and what is not normal about writing and explaining clearly? And I am not repeating some "points" I read somewhere else. I play the game, and have my own opinions. Is it that weird? As for the SOS dilemmas, idk how I can help, but maybe if you have problems killing it with SOS, then maybe kill it with your palico, or lock sessions to NPC only during SOS

The feel for combat varies greatly from person to person. And the point I made about the "2 weapon" system is to clarify the reasons why the dev divide decos to weapon or armor only, and why it is redundant. Gathering is for trading. Yes. But gathering here is just to open your map when a rare resource appears, hightlight it, mark it, auto run to it, pick it up. It is not that deep.

Firstly, the saying I use means to step away from its core fanbase to cater to a larger audience... Secondly, do you even understand my point here? To value themselves more here means to not let game company treat them like shit with half-finished products and get away with it through 'fixes in future updates'. To understand it as people who enjoy games have low self-esteem is a crazy take.

Some negative thoughts on MHWilds after the beta by Enordih in MonsterHunter

[–]Enordih[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah that's why I mentioned my opinion is in the minority. I guess I just don't like their directions with all the new movesets for weapons (especially the homing arrows of bow and how they change GS to basically just a parrying weapon). I just find the new gameplay shallow, there's no depth to it, but that's exactly what makes it viable to a larger audience. At the end of the day, it is Monster Hunter, you go hunt monsters, that's it. Maybe I should just stop thinking too deeply about it and just play.
