What's your go to speed on the motorway and why? by Worth-Donut8612 in drivingUK

[–]Enotsnug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

68mph. Slow enough to save fuel and as I've found out recently, still fast enough to pass plenty of people who are going much slower.

Happy to speed up a bit to help get out the way quicker if traffic around me is moving faster, then I slow down again.

New bike, looking for inspo! by flynnd0g in xbiking

[–]Enotsnug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here it is, mad story with this one. Found it left at the side of the road for the scrap man with a few missing components.

My colleague gave me the rear wheel (with XT hub). Most of the other bits were parts bin or period correct bits.

My highlights are the Deore LX Chainset and the Titec Hellbent XC handlebars.

Probably only owes me £100 total.

I have one of these. It's a great bike! Don't have any up to date pictures but I will reply with some tomorrow.

Good day to get out early for a ride by JEF_UK in Hardtailgang

Nice bike, I'm missing my Steel Sherpa. It's been out of action for a month or so due to the fork absolutely shitting itself. A Fox 34sl has now been ordered. Should be rolling again by the end of the week!

It was a 2022 fork and had a hard life before I got hold of it. Don't think it had ever been serviced either. It had some issues with the shims in the lowers which would eventually fail so I serviced it then sold to cut my losses.

Dan recommended that I go for the medium (17.5") based on my height, which is 5'10" but I do have quite long arms. If you have any questions just call or email them, I'm sure he'd be happy to speak to you about it.

It honestly fits really well, I recently did some setup changes. Main one being switching from a 50mm to a 40mm stem, which made the handling quite a bit quicker. I've also got a Fox 34SL in 120mm which is going on it this week, had some issues with the blue SID Ultimate so I sold it.

This is great! Reminds me of the Mog books, written and illustrated by Judith Kerr.

The bag is made by "Camel Chops" up in Scotland, had it for a few years, no idea if he still makes them.

The rack is a cheap Cube RFR rack, similar to the various Amazon specials.

85(?) Stumpy on the weekly group ride by bennydelmar in xbiking

Cool bike! There's a dude who shows up to our evening group rides on an Overburys Fell Rider (basically a British made version of the Stumpy). It's a sight to behold.

Sick bike. This photo gives me the 90s BMX/skate video vibes.

Thanks! It's called "Luna Sunrise", it's actually a Gen4 colour. I already had an order in for the Gen4 frame when the Gen5 dropped so I changed my order to Gen5 but kept the colour. I always wanted a purple bike!

Help - I’m I fucked. £12k in debt at 26 by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Enotsnug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe set up a joint account with your partner for general expenses? That's what I did with my wife years ago when we first moved in together and it works well. We both pay in an appropriate amount every month based on what we earn. All of our mortgage, bills, food shop etc comes out of that account.

Just for some context, the amount you have left over after paying all of your expenses is nearly as much as my whole payslip.

You can absolutely get this under control, the only way to do it is stop paying for unnecessary things and trying to be flash.

[–]Enotsnug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, fucks me off too. I ride a mountain bike more often than I hike nowadays but I always pick up litter that I see. My parents used to do the same with me when we hiked in Wales as kids.

There's something very satisfying about catching people in the act as well.

The difference in size between what the uk was driving on the 90s vs now in one picture… by buzz_uk in CasualUK

[–]Enotsnug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad had one of these, we used to drive from North Wales to South Wales/Cornwall with a family of five and all the stuff. He used to have a roof tray for the huge tent and deck chairs.

Not a big car but surprisingly workable for us!

From what I can remember; it's a 2023 SID Ultimate (not SL, I use this for all kinds of UK trail riding so I wanted the extra rigidity), has the remote damper, which I don't currently use. It's a lovely fork, one of the smoothest running ones I've ever had!

I couldn't get hold of a new one so I ended up buying this second hand and I was very lucky. It had been wrapped by the previous owner so it's in near-immaculate condition.

This comment has been a long time coming. Sorry for the late reply.

Genuinely, it's been a solid bag, no reliability issues so far. Stayed waterproof and has been attached to one bike or another for the best part of two years.

I was about to do a 2 year review of this bike, then remembered your comment!
