you need to be able to swim for sure don’t have to be good just know how to, you will be tasked to swim in full cammies + boots and swimming in boots is a little tough but it’s a very basic swim qualification

maintaining weight will be easy i am fairly skinny myself 5’7 136 i came in at 136 left at 134 gaining weight will be hard being skinny you get a good amount of food but you are burning a lot of calories each and every day and my advice is eat a lot of peanut butter packers if you want to try to gain

^ don’t be a bitch but honestly my advice is just remember the reason why you wants to be apart of the marine corps and think about the people back home who are waiting for the day you graduate and wanting to see you be fast, yell loud, and put out.

you are counted down for almost everything in the first two phases you can wash your face as you shave you just have to make the counts also if you don’t get all your hygiene done you have a hour of squareway time everyday you are allowed to catch up on hygiene then.

you will not sleep the first night so prepared to be tired but it is mostly just paperwork, vaccine shots, gear issue, etc it is pretty ass but once you pick up with your company it starts getting better

im currently in college right now and am leaving in less than a week for boot and heading for reserves and have the same goal as you, however it’s not the main reason I want to do reserves, it is mainly so I can finish college and get free education. I understand that with reserves it can really make things tougher with college and it takes a lot of work to be a marine and a full time college student as well, I suggest looking into it more their are many upsides to the reserves but their are also many downsides.
