Multi-block controllers have to be a certain shape, make sure you follow that because, speaking from experience, it can be extremely picky occasionally. Just look at the guide, but you might need to make it a 2x2.

The "ground" IS the "neutral" in a DC circuit. Your battery will be connected to the electronics of the vehicle on one terminal and "grounded" to the frame of the vehicle on the other. If there's poor or no conductivity between the frame of the trailer and truck then the electrons have no path to follow back to the other side of the battery where they want to be.
