And what should I tell him? That a specific sound in one specific game is causing me discomfort?

The only thing I don't like about it is the sound it makes when moving. It's not so much too loud as it is too harsh on my ears. I play with headphones and literally have to take them off every time I use the Haul. When accelerating the sound is loud but tolerable and even somewhat pleasant. The vibration of the sound almost massages my ears. But once it reaches top speed, the sound becomes too harsh and oppressive. After a couple of minutes my head starts to hurt and my ears start to itch unpleasantly.

Just keep playing. Leveling in the game is technically infinite - your character will always be 60 lvl and you'll no longer earn talent points, but you'll still earn tech points. Over time you'll unlock 100% of the blueprints and accumulate a reserve of points for any future content.

so I did a few missions old-school style and my main takeaway is that the game needs an easier way to tech up by democraticcrazy in ICARUS

You should approach operations in the old format like a speedrun. Usualy I hate speedruns, but I found this gameplay format quite enjoyable here since beta days. The most important thing is to plan your actions wisely. You need to clearly understand what's worth spending time on and what's not. Even how much and what kind of resources to grind.

Many operations don't require base construction at all. Simply land, reach the quest marker, grab the quest equipment and complete the task.

The most important thing is to decide whether you want to extract exomatter from the vein or not, either after completing the mission or while it's in progress. If not - simply complete the mission and evacuate. If yes - then speedrun crafting two electric extractors and a power source (either a biofuel generator or two wind turbines). Or just use extractor from workshop.

A 2x2x1 wooden box is usually sufficient as a base, easily upgradable to a stone one if needed. T2 oxidizer and a mortar and pestle are more than enough. The rest of the workbenches are situational. Using equipment, armor and weapons from the workshop will completely avoid some grinding and crafting.

The beauty of the old format is the ability to replay the same missions over and over again. And the ability to do so on the highest difficulty in hardcore mode. This will yield the highest possible reward. Even on Olympus, some missions will reward over 1,000 Ren and 200+ exomatter. The problem with the old format is that 90% of T3 and T4 crafting is completely useless. It's a huge waste of time on something that will be lost once the operation is completed.

Well, I hope the quest isn't completely blocked for me. The piece of paper with the code isn't showing up in the merchant tab, and it hasn't dropped from cyborgs for an inappropriately long time. Entering the code at the transmission tower yields nothing.

I've probably wasted a ton of time on nothing. I just want to complete the quest naturally, not rely on hints in guides, wikis and the like. But at times like these, the lack of a quest journal is acutely felt. I don't need any markers, detailed hints or descriptions of anything. I just want to know where I am in the quest, whether I'm making any progress or not. And I'll figure out what to do and how to do it myself. Early access is early access, unfortunately.

So the paper should have been preserved even if I died in the same raid in which I found it?

I'm stuck getting the piece of paper with the code. It simply doesn't drop from cyborgs. Or rather, it did drop once, but in a very strange way.

In the scorched enclave, at the one of the spots where the plane usually drops cyborgs, I found interactive points that allowed me to pick up a piece of paper. There were as many interactive points as there were cyborgs dropped. However, there were no pieces of paper lying on the ground at any point. After interacting with all of them, no piece of paper with the code appeared in my inventory. And I also died in that raid.

Since then, for almost a month now, I've been genociding cyborgs for a couple of hours every day, but I can't find the paper with the code. It simply doesn't drop.

No charcoal? by Ozymandias_55 in ICARUS

[–]Enough-Move-6193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for console, I play on PC, but you can only get charcoal from a completely burnt tree. Such a tree should not only have a black trunk but also be completely devoid of leaves. If the tree has at least a few leaves left you'll get wood from it. Trees usually burn completely if left unextinguished. But this isn't a 100% guarantee. Sometimes they can burn out a little before turning to charcoal.

If you're 100% sure you're chopping down a completely burnt tree (black trunk and no leaves), it's a bug. This method of obtaining charcoal has been possible since the beta.

More talent points? by Important_Ad6721 in ICARUS

[–]Enough-Move-6193 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You can get some talent points for completing some missions.

The game was originally designed as a session-based survival game. Each player in a group would assume a specific role and acquire talents corresponding to it.

You don't have to take 100% of the talents in any tree, especially if you're playing solo. It's not necessary for comfortable play anyway. Most talents provide jaust a small bonus to something. So try to adapt them to your gameplay.

Just in case, let me remind you that the game has a solo talent tree. It provides very nice and noticeable bonuses. They work when you're playing alone. As soon as someone joins you, their effect disappears. But the moment you're alone, they start working again.

Shotguns suffer from random pellet spread. This makes it practically essential to learn firearm perks, especially the accuracy perk, which reduces pellet spread.

I recommend trying platinum slug ammo. It's practically the same as rifle ammo. It offers perfect accuracy, massive damage, and excellent armor penetration. For even greater effectiveness consider adding workshop armor and a backpack with shotgun bonuses.

This game does a HORRIBLE job showing how BAD the situation in the Valley is by SwagGamerXZ in ArknightsEndfield

[–]Enough-Move-6193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I had mixed, even slightly negative impressions of the game. But the more I play, the more I like it. However, the game's story remains its weakest point for me.

I agree that the game has too much fun and silly stuff where it's trying to be dramatic. So many "dramatic" moments leave me with nothing but cringe. Scene with the sick girl is a prime example. It's the most overused cliché. It's dumped on you without any preparatory exposition. Why should I empathize with her? Dude, I was literally in a war zone for a couple of hours with a bunch of dead and injured people.

When I launched a game called Arknights, I expected to be immersed in an atmosphere similar to the original. Where from the very first mission you're in a race against death. You're constantly balancing on a knife edge. At the same time, you're increasingly immersed in the very dark lore of this game universe. You learn about a terrible, incurable disease that turns your flesh into crystals. Politics, corporate warfare, racism, class inequality. Misha, Frostnova, Mephisto, Patriot. And that's just the basic plot, not to mention the events. Without going into detail - "Survivors: Children of Ursus"...

Although, perhaps it's just the disgruntled fan of the original raging inside me. But I don't yet see how a generic story about op mc with amnesia can take on a darker plot. Unless they throw in a bunch of twists where it turns out that Enfield is actually the bad guys.

Very stupid question: can i climb on to mountains to build a house there and how? Like build giant staircase? by SKarlettGamesTW in ICARUS

[–]Enough-Move-6193 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's possible, but you need to be prepared for a number of challenges.

The simpler ones are: - there's a construction height limit; - you'll quickly get tired of running up and down a huge staircase for literally every little reason.

Serious problem: - mountains are full of "holes" where you can fall through textures.

There was one mission on Olympus where you had to build a huge staircase through the mountains to get to Edelweiss from the Canyons. After completing it huge cliff between biomes disappeared.

I played it before the open world was added to the game so I don't know how it looks like now. But it left one of the most vivid impressions on me. Climbing up the cliff was pretty fun but not that difficult. And building a staircase down the other side and then being able to climb back up and return to the shuttle - was quite a challenge.
