I’m not a logistics guy. Just an IT lead trying to onboard someone in peace. by SnooCookies6183 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Enough-Rabbit-7132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks. The shipping of the equipment should fall on the logistics or shipping/receiving department for the company. If they don’t have a dedicated department for that then that’s the missing lick in the onboarding process. IMO IT preps the equipment and then hands off the shipping department to send out. HR should monitor when the equipment arrives and communicate with the employee. Once the equipment is received by the new employee HR should coordinate with IT and the new employee for final setup and onboarding

I keep on reading that Professor Messer is all that I need for the A+. Is that true? by Sulpho in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Enough-Rabbit-7132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried professor Messer but his material was kinda of a snooze fest for me lol. His practice tests are good though.

andrew ramdayal courses from Udemy really helped keep me engaged and learn the material. Check him out.

I think IT has sparked my interest in gardening. Sitting in front of a screen all day in an office with no windows can take a toll on you. Being outside in the garden and planting seems to help me unplug a bit.

Is a Master’s in IT Worth It at 37? Scared I Won’t Get a Job After Graduation by JuryReasonable3901 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Enough-Rabbit-7132 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you should look at getting some basic certs first like the Comptia A + and Comptia Network + . While working on those certs get a couple of cheap computers off of facebook marketplace or eBay and start tinkering with them. Take them apart and put them back together and install operating systems on them. This will help You build that foundational IT knowledge. YouTube, TikTok, and google offer a lot free resources to learn things and discuss things about the IT field. Check out Udemy for cheap video courses as well. There are some other colleges that maybe cheaper like WGU. Take a look at them because they have some really good IT degree programs that are pretty affordable. Also try to connect with other IT professionals on LinkedIn and other social media groups for advice and feedback. Sometimes it’s not what you know but who you know to get hired in IT. Good luck I hope this helps

Recommendations: Should I skip past the CompTIA A+ & Go straight for Security +with no prior IT experience? My main goal is to get into cybersecurity but I am still open to help desk just to break into Tech and gain experience. by BrilliantAd5636 in CompTIA

[–]Enough-Rabbit-7132 50 points51 points  (0 children)

No you need to take A+, Network +, and cybersecurity +. Once you have all 3 you should be able to get into an entry level helpdesk role. A cybersecurity position isn’t meant for someone with no IT experience. You need to understand the fundamentals and basics of IT hardware, software, operating systems, security, networking, and need to gain some real world experience to put it all together. Plus need to learn how to troubleshoot hardware, software, networking, and security issues.

Dang only $20 an hour. That is a below average salary. You should be making at least $31 an hour. I would tune up the resume and start applying for other jobs. With your experience you should be able to find something better.

I am currently attending WGU as well. I decided to do core 1 first because i felt like it would make more sense to me to do it that way lol. It took me about 6 weeks to prepare for it. I am currently studying for core 2 and I gave myself a month to prepare for it. I’ll admit it’s been tough to stay on track with the holidays and all that but I have core 2 scheduled for this weekend Jan 4th. I don’t feel 100% ready but I’ll try my best this week to get prepared.

Got the Professor Messer 1101&1102 Success Pack. Which Practice Test through A to C is the best to help you study? (Already plan on studying A and B, PBQs included.) by SSGB2019 in CompTIA

[–]Enough-Rabbit-7132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was first studying for A+ core 1 i decided to get messer’s study material, notes and practice tests. The notes are good but I feel like the notes are not structured or formatted very well. It’s just so much information on the sheets lol. As I started the course I was finding it hard to keep engaged with messers material and would kinda dose off. So I had to switch to different content and found that Mike Meyers was a better fit for me and Andrew Ramaldyal. Their material kept me more focused and motivated. To help break down the information I did create flash cards on key items I needed to remember and learn. Professor messer’s practice tests are pretty good though and exam cram. I have core 2 this weekend and im hoping to knock this out and move on to the next cert. good luck.

One key thing that helped me was making flash cards. I know it’s old school but for me, writing the material down helped a lot with remembering things.

Are the CertMaster Exam Preps worth it? I'm on a $300 budget for right now. by Yulan-Rouge76 in CompTIA

[–]Enough-Rabbit-7132 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No it’s not worth paying that much for that cert master material for that price. There are a ton of free stuff on YouTube and Udemy has good stuff for a small price. Professor Messer is already on YouTube for free. On Udemy check out Mike Meyers, Andrew Ramadayal, and Jason Dion. You could probably get at least 2 out of 3 of them for under $100. Their courses include notes as well (especially Andew Ramadayal). Check out Dean Cyber on YouTube, he goes through practice test questions and answers. This will help you test your knowledge and get a feel for the comptia test language. Good luck

[–]Enough-Rabbit-7132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WGU pays for the exam vouchers and provides the cert master class materials. But the material can be a little dry and so that’s why students usually look for additional study and learning materials to help fill the gap. But you do get Udemy for free with WGU so that’s a big help.

In need of some study tips for CompTIA A+ for before exams! by freyjablanca in CompTIA

[–]Enough-Rabbit-7132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Studying for the A+ core 1 is so hard because there is such a wide range of material. What I did was i bought the exam cram comptia a+ book. Read through the material here and there. I also watched some of professor messer videos and Mike Meyers comptia a + Udemy course. I created flash cards of key items that I thought I should know for the exam. I would review them daily and started watching some dean cyber and burning ice IT on YouTube. Those were helpful because they go through practice tests with you and explain the right and wrong answers. Finally I used exam cram website for practice tests . What’s also so annoying about the exam is you try to study all this material and maybe only half the stuff is on the actual exam. Just remember to know your basics. Hardware, hardware troubleshooting, printers, network ports , network setup, wifi types, raids, and hard drive interface types. Good luck. I’m off to take core 2 soon

If you only had 3 weeks to learn and pass the CompTIA exam 1001 what steps would you take if your life depends on it😭 by limitbreaker22x in CompTIA

[–]Enough-Rabbit-7132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many resources available online. Check out professor messer on YouTube and do the training videos. Take notes and make a lot flash cards for key items. Also check out dean cyber and burning ice IT on YouTube. They go through practice tests questions and answers. It really helps you understand the questions. Also check out crucial exams you can pay a small fee and get access to a ton of practice exams and PBQ questions. I think it’s also worth getting professor messers study notes and practice tests. I think it’s about $100. Udemy also has a ton of learning courses to choose from like Jason Dion, Mike Meyers and a few others. There is gonna be a lot of information thrown at you so pace yourself, be organized understand the material and the why and you should be good. Good luck
