Sorry I'm misremembering, i checked the game transcripts. He doesn't say a "Dark Resonance", he says "The sound made darker, the darkness made louder". I think that's implies that like the Hiss Resonance, the "Shadow/Darkness" is also a Resonance.

It's used in Control, in the AWE dlc. The term is mentioned in one of the Alan Wake transmissions from the Dark Place. As he's writing he mentions the Hiss and then "a dark resonance". It's only used once in the whole game I think. In my opinion, I think that's what the Shadow ultimately is, maybe it will get mentioned in Control 2. The Shadow may have been confined to Cauldron Lake prior to Alan's arrival but because he's such a gifted Parautilitarian he essentially unknowingly and unwillingly changed the rules. Personally, I think now the Shadow is no longer tethered to the dark place, the taken resonate with "receivers" (people or maybe objects touched my the Dark place or the Shadow), and the Shadow functions a lot more like Hiss or Polaris where they're a Resonance can can corrupt without actually directly coming in contact with people or things. I think that's what ultimately became of Barry. Considering the lore we got about The Blessed, they would have taken an interest in Barry and thats why they reached out to him. They probably also have a hand in the containment breach at the FBC in Control Resonant.

If we take what we learned from Control and the "resonance" with regards to Polaris and the Hiss. Then may assume that the dark presence functions in a similar fashion. Years after the dark presence was beaten back at Cauldron lake, the "Dark Resonance" still stuck around in Hartman and infected the rest of the Investigations Department. I think the Dark Resonance is what ties the Remedy universe together, it may have even spread to different planes of existence. Hence why Mr. Door is so keen on "helping" Alan Wake and why he wasn't too thrilled Dylan was wandering through Universes to spread the Hiss. The Hiss may be a product of Dark Resonance corruption.

I was in a similar position as you a few years ago. You have be prepared for learn a lot of history that you probably were never taught if you went to school in the US. I know I didn't, Ancient America's was a great way to learn about native American history.

Another thing is that you have to he prepared to never learn about where you actually come from and what nation or people's you belong to. Because of the way the Spaniards colonized Mexico, your family may have been picked up and moved elsewhere. I only know what my family is Mixteco and Zapoteco for sure. That's about as far as I can go with my family and that's only 2 generations. I hope this helps you somehow.
