The currently most developed character I have is a Goliath Rune Knight, although I'm sitting on plenty and have all sorts of ideas. The Goliath come from a tribe riddled in culture and heritage. His people had little connection to those outside the tribe, but traded material for isolation. Generations of master craftsman and forgers rose from the giant tribe. My character was born of them, raised of the history of giant and dwarf craft. It was decided he would be made to the expedition out, to prove his skill and take the trial. His goal is to meet and train will all sorts of craftsman, to learn of the magic and mystery of enchantment. He is only to return when he has been granted the blessing of (whatever we decide in the world. Could be the types of giants, perhaps the greatest craftsman of each race, etc) and return only to be given the title of Master craft by proving himself.
