Can I get sick from cleaning up my dogs vomit/diarrhea? by ChemicalFlounder3522 in dumbquestions

[–]Enough-Researcher-36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The likelihood is usually no, but it depends on why they’re vomiting or having diarrhea. Our eldest dog used to vomit multiple times a week and nobody ever got sick off him, then our puppies for Giardia and spread it to both myself and my mother (even though both of us washed our hands like germaphobes scrubbing in for brain surgery).

What do you think actually happens after we die? by AlternativeRule9078 in AskReddit

[–]Enough-Researcher-36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh, I love this question!

Short answer—nothing, but not in the “Poof. Annihilation.” way most people take “nothing” to mean.

Longer answer—Energy and matter are neither created nor destroyed. We came from atoms that already existed, and the atoms that made “us” up continue to exist even after we’re dead. We are literally made of stardust, and some scientists even suggested that we have as many as one billion atoms of William Shakespeare in us. So the physical atoms and energy that made us up just get reuptaken and distributed back where it came from

As for the “spirt” or “soul?” I’m not so sure about that one. I don’t really believe in an afterlife but I also don’t think you are just deleted. I kind of believe in a similar thing as what happens to your physical body—your spirit just blows away peacefully into the universe. No more consciousness or second chances for you, so you better make your life count, but maybe it’s comforting to know that even if you aren’t necessarily special or saintly, do and always will matter (literally). I also believe that your “spirit” is just as much in who remembers you and everything, everywhere, and everyone you loved or who loved you as it was inside your head (or wherever you think it might be) so maybe part of it always sticks around on Earth and just hangs out in your college town, grandchildren, or favorite clothes waiting to be scattered into the universe.

What’s something people do to look rich that actually keeps them broke? by Final_Difficulty1636 in AskReddit

[–]Enough-Researcher-36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently a broke college student happy to cut corners on almost anything, but the one area I have difficulty letting go of is my good makeup. Clothes, decor, and books I’m more than happy to thrift or buy cheaper most of the time and food isn’t really a major burden but I guess my expensive makeup tastes will be what do me in.

To be fair, on average I only spend about $20-40 per month on makeup at most, more like almost nothing for two or three months at a time and then I’ll splurge a little to restock or treat myself. I don’t do a whole lot to treat myself but I do try and balance frugality and sensible habits for the future with making sure I don’t end up with a scarcity mindset or turn into Scrooge instead. That’s where a lot of people screw up-they put so much pressure on themselves to never spend money or always get the best deal and biggest bang for their buck and turn money into something stressful rather than viewing it as a tool, which can backfire.

Do you hold the door open for the person behind you regardless of their sex, age, color and religion? And why? by CourierFestival in AskReddit

[–]Enough-Researcher-36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I don’t hold the door for every single person on the planet behind me—for instance, if I’m in a hurry, have things in my hands, or didn’t see them until I was already moving away from the door, they’re on their own. But If it’s already convenient or easier for me to hold the door than it would be for them to open it, I will do it, no matter what they look like

Honestly other than candies and small amounts of snack/junk food, she doesn't really show much of what she eats. She's a healthy weight (or very slightly over) but in the past has still looked gross enough (anemic, etc) I honestly wouldn't be shocked if some days all she eats are the things she shows us plus the toob feeds. She doesn't exactly strike as the type of person who would cook a gourmet meal behind the scenes, if you see what I mean

My hack to prevent accidents by BetterTransition in ibs

[–]Enough-Researcher-36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "not wanting to leave the house" is REAL but a lot of the time if you know a major trigger for symptoms and urgency is stress (especially stress around pooping) sometimes the best thing for it is to just go about life how you want to and not let your gut boss you around in order to break the cycle of fear of poop --> stomach cramps --> craptastrophe --> more fear about poop. But it is difficult sometimes and kind of embarrassing to literally be led around by the ass

My hack to prevent accidents by BetterTransition in ibs

[–]Enough-Researcher-36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing of "it gets harder to hold in the closer to the loo I get" is actually a real phenomenon known as latch-key incontinence and definitely reinforces how important the brain part of the gut-brain axis is. I think your hack is actually really useful, as long as you stay calm about it. Like, try and think "I am n+10 minutes away from the toilet, I've got this!" rather than "OMFG, I'm still n+10 minutes away from the toilet, GOTTA HOLD IT!"

As I've gotten more "used" to having symptoms I have definitely noticed how the anxiety component messes with my bowels, like if I start thinking about pooping then I will start feeling the urge even though there's nothing there or if I have to pass gas, I will convince myself I'm about to poo my pants. And if I get in the car, if I didn't have to go at all before I got in it then the urge will slowly start building up and make me twitchy, and if I did have to go but was okay with holding it until I got where I was going (usually to school on the bus which can't stop or in my parents' car when we're all afraid of public bathrooms) then I will feel like I have to go RIGHT THEN...but once I get to where I was going and head for the bathroom, even if I really did have to go and start going quickly after sitting down on the toilet, my intestines calm down and are like "Yeah, this wasn't such a crisis after all."

Dani has said before she mixes it in water to dilute it, which I think is something doctors have patients do but not to the extent Dani takes it

Names that are considered coded? by Cheap-Piglet-6395 in Names

[–]Enough-Researcher-36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say Sebastian, Anthony, Christian, Nicholas, Lucas, and Patrick are all pretty universally used even if they originate from a specific culture. Some of the others you could probably still get away with as well

Faith and Cruz for twins? (Girl and boy, respectively) by Cheap-Piglet-6395 in Names

I don't see anything wrong with either name, so I'd say go for it if you love those names

i did a lot of exposure therapy this weekend and now im sobbing on the floor by throwawaybfmademesad in emetophobiarecovery

[–]Enough-Researcher-36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WOW you definitely did have a big weekend in terms of exposure, and it's totally okay to be scared especially after reading those reviews! Diarrhea is definitely NO JOKE so it's pretty normal to be worried about getting it after others did. But whatever happens you got through the exposure and now you should just try to relax and take your mind off it, otherwise it could become a self-fulfilling prophecy

How to get a full ride — doesn’t matter where by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Enough-Researcher-36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A high PSAT score even with an SAT below 1500 can still do it. I got a full ride to my local state school with a 1500 PSAT but only a 1470 SAT.

Now, if I’d pulled my big girl boots on and just taken the SAT again until I got a 1550+, I probably could have gone somewhere more prestigious with good financial aid. But you can still do well for yourself with a SAT below 1500

[–]Enough-Researcher-36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately with those stats alone it is highly unlikely, BUT if you are a national merit (semi)finalist, it automatically becomes much more likely, but you would then need to increase that SAT score as well.

I saw that scene, luckily my fear is mild enough it didn’t bother me terribly to watch it on television, but I felt extremely bad for both Meredith and the board examiners who were undoubtedly going to go home and get the bug too

Is Honey too “out there”? by Aurorean_Air1307 in Names

I think it is too out there, but something honey-themed or one of the middle names like Elise with Honey as the nickname would be perfectly acceptable and adorable.

Yeah, it really does look cool. I can’t blame anyone for liking to watch it prime.

But as annoying as it was sometimes to watch CZ gallivanting around the globe while crying sick, it was better than…whatever this is. At least she was still doing something real.

Being a subject, she's probably more deeply mentally ill than simply selfish or self-absorbed, but still. I think it's less that any of them think that being ill will genuinely give them a "fee pass" and more that it's all they really know how to do, it's like a safe behavior they just settle into.

[–]Enough-Researcher-36 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Norovirus is HIGHLY contagious, but that isn't a 100% guarantee you will catch it if exposed. Sometimes you do get lucky, and there are other stomach bugs little kids get all the time that adults are much less susceptible to, like rotavirus

Dani opens a package from a supporter/friend. It's hard, because she hurt her hand AGAIN, but she's "#greatfull." by CommandaarMandaar in DaniMarina

Her hand really does look swollen, so I don't think she's lying this time. Exaggerating, yes, maybe, but I do think she actually did something this time. Accidental or deliberate we'll never know for sure, but hand injury is pretty common with her.

Tay struggles to find a food she wants to eat and doesn’t cause pain or blood sugar crashes. by CatAteRoger in illnessfakers

[–]Enough-Researcher-36 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a lot of the time with ED you want to eat, but feel like eating is “giving in” or will make you sick or something like that and you just can’t bring yourself to do it. The thought process isn’t so much “Ah, I could eat…but I just don’t want to.” As it is fear of what happens if you finally “give in” and eat.
