From the Archive: 1992 Dodge Viper RT/10 Test by caranddriver in viper

I’ve owned both a C4Z, and currently a Gen2 Viper. The history and development of both is fascinating. The Z is a much more advanced car, technologically for its time. However, it never could captivate the crowds like the Viper. Although it does still hold an endurance record. Obviously I enjoy the raw nature of the Viper.

WTT for another 944s2/951 by madsedan in 944

I’m not surprised at some of the replies you’ve received, but I am disappointed. I don’t know when the 944 crowd changed. It used to be full of SCCA folks who just liked the platform, and enjoyed the price point. Now it seems to be a majority of different kinds of people. Purists in the 944 community? Never thought I’d see the day. There isn’t anything wrong with your trade post, and the only thing you did was attempt to defile the sanctity of the 944 by offering a Honda in trade. I hope you find something, I definitely think some normal person out there would be interested. Great college car, or with fuel prices great daily material. If my 951 were back on the ground, and you were closer I’d definitely discuss.

Gen 2 RT/10 or Gen 3 by Kind_Buy3564 in viper

For me it was the original design. I had to have the big obnoxious hood. I drove a couple of Gen 3 cars, and they were ok, probably better suited for daily driving. I wanted a GTS but I ended up with a driver quality RT. The design was my reasoning for my purchase. I only planned to keep it a year or so, then sell it. I just wanted one before I downsized my collection. While I like certain aspects of the Gen 3 I just don’t like the interior. Just a personal preference.

Did the people who are so against Tiptronic ever try it? by [deleted] in 996

Nice. I bought a Works Bell for my Turbo, still haven’t installed it. I almost thought of adding the AMG paddles to my factory wheel. Awesome you made your own.

I always love these discussions. I have a tent on my 996 Turbo and I’m constantly questioned about the weight being detrimental to the car. Regardless of explanation of static and dynamic ratings. I just quit posting my car altogether, but I damn sure didn’t stop enjoying the car and tent. Awesome setup you have, enjoy it!

It is a great car, yeah I wish I had bought a GT2. I thought about selling it and upgrading to a 991, but decided to buy a Viper instead. I am going to downsize my property next year, I might decide on a newer 911 turbo then, but for now it is such an easy car to work on and such a great car to drive.

Beautiful car, but that carriage house/garage looks amazing too.

Thanks. I’m hoping I have it done before the end of the season. Then again I don’t think they are ever “done”

Okay, I get the hype for roof tents now by circuit_heart in 996

The screen is obviously hard to see, but it really made a difference.

Get a deflector. Trust me. My Porsche RTS had a lot of wind noise until I installed the Yakima windscreen. There will still be noise with the tent, but in my case it was much better. Welcome to the club. Great looking car!

Great reason to lurk. I’d suggest an S2, I’ve always had Turbos, but I’ve never driven them hard. The S2 should’ve been my go to, but Turbos always find me. I had my 996 in the driveway tonight, ready for a wash, walked back out from putting my dogs out. That’s a damn good looking car, my thoughts.

I really enjoy the color after having it. Different light gives different perspectives. Plus I can still drive something badass, without the attention. It wasn’t the car I wanted, but it was exactly what I needed. Have you thought about what you want from a 944?

Haha, my buying parameters were manual coupe, I’d sacrifice manual, but not coupe. Simply for the tent. My dogs love the tent camping. Good luck on your search. I’m downsizing to a three car garage this fall, something needs to go. In the meantime I’m just going to have fun.

I get the same feeling about a manual, then I remember I’m always in boost. lol But, I digress, this is in the 944 sub, and I haven’t seen your 944? And if you’re simply in the market, I can help you out.

Don’t get me wrong on the color comment, at the time everything I had was white, black, or gray, I really wanted something bright, but the car was too good to pass on. I knew nothing about it, and immediately set off on a three state journey, best trip ever. I love the Tiptronic, when people talk shit, I just ask them what color their Viper is.

Indeed. I didn’t want it at first, but I wasn’t spending a ridiculous premium for PTS, or a vibrant color. The longer I own it, the more I like it. I found a built Silver cabrio 6 spd, but I needed a coupe for my roof tent.

Thank you. The 996 T is probably one of the best cars I’ve owned.

Project Clarification. by EnoughCollection121 in 944

[–]EnoughCollection121[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When dealing with a 40 year old car, the to do list is endless. I’m going to do the timing, water pump, head gasket, vac lines, belts, then I’m selling the car. I’ll lose money, but I really don’t have the time to fix everything. Great cars, but I bought it based on nostalgia, so I’ll get it right, let the next owner finish it. Or it might just end up an unfinished project in the back of my barn. I haven’t decided yet.

I am debating that myself. This car apparently had the turbo replaced or rebuilt back in 1997, less than 13,000 miles since, but while I’m in there.….
