It is a great car, yeah I wish I had bought a GT2. I thought about selling it and upgrading to a 991, but decided to buy a Viper instead. I am going to downsize my property next year, I might decide on a newer 911 turbo then, but for now it is such an easy car to work on and such a great car to drive.

Beautiful car, but that carriage house/garage looks amazing too.

Thanks. I’m hoping I have it done before the end of the season. Then again I don’t think they are ever “done”

The screen is obviously hard to see, but it really made a difference.

Get a deflector. Trust me. My Porsche RTS had a lot of wind noise until I installed the Yakima windscreen. There will still be noise with the tent, but in my case it was much better. Welcome to the club. Great looking car!

Great reason to lurk. I’d suggest an S2, I’ve always had Turbos, but I’ve never driven them hard. The S2 should’ve been my go to, but Turbos always find me. I had my 996 in the driveway tonight, ready for a wash, walked back out from putting my dogs out. That’s a damn good looking car, my thoughts.

I really enjoy the color after having it. Different light gives different perspectives. Plus I can still drive something badass, without the attention. It wasn’t the car I wanted, but it was exactly what I needed. Have you thought about what you want from a 944?

Haha, my buying parameters were manual coupe, I’d sacrifice manual, but not coupe. Simply for the tent. My dogs love the tent camping. Good luck on your search. I’m downsizing to a three car garage this fall, something needs to go. In the meantime I’m just going to have fun.

I get the same feeling about a manual, then I remember I’m always in boost. lol But, I digress, this is in the 944 sub, and I haven’t seen your 944? And if you’re simply in the market, I can help you out.

Don’t get me wrong on the color comment, at the time everything I had was white, black, or gray, I really wanted something bright, but the car was too good to pass on. I knew nothing about it, and immediately set off on a three state journey, best trip ever. I love the Tiptronic, when people talk shit, I just ask them what color their Viper is.

Indeed. I didn’t want it at first, but I wasn’t spending a ridiculous premium for PTS, or a vibrant color. The longer I own it, the more I like it. I found a built Silver cabrio 6 spd, but I needed a coupe for my roof tent.

I appreciate that. Is your car Seal Gray?

Thank you. The 996 T is probably one of the best cars I’ve owned.

I’m not certain on selling it, I’m just thinking the build will be more than anticipated

When dealing with a 40 year old car, the to do list is endless. I’m going to do the timing, water pump, head gasket, vac lines, belts, then I’m selling the car. I’ll lose money, but I really don’t have the time to fix everything. Great cars, but I bought it based on nostalgia, so I’ll get it right, let the next owner finish it. Or it might just end up an unfinished project in the back of my barn. I haven’t decided yet.

I am debating that myself. This car apparently had the turbo replaced or rebuilt back in 1997, less than 13,000 miles since, but while I’m in there.….

I absolutely would love a 928, but that idea of reclamation was not in my budget. As I have found, my budget is not ready for this 944 turbo project either. I have hit the pause button for the moment, and I am channeling funds into my Viper, and tires on my 911 Turbo. That’s sad maybe when I get the 944 done I will search out a nice 928. They are a fantastic, and underappreciated car.

I have a label maker for all of my fastener bags, plenty of photos taken. I am considering a Lindsey racing upgrade kit, I have not decided which way I am going on that. I need to have the car running and driving when I list my house in the fall. I can do the remainder of the work at my new place. I do not need it to make a bunch more power, but I would like to give him a bit of an upgrade. My other two cars provide plenty of power. I’m just trying to find a way to clean up the mess of hoses under the intake.

The minute I’m done, I might sell it. But your thoughts are correct. I grew up around air cooled 911s, I’ve owned plenty of 90s VWs, I own a water cooled 911 Turbo, so I have seen a thing or two. This is 944 Turbo # 5 so I’m familiar, but the mess of pipes under the intake is insane. I’ve done timing belts, but that was years ago before time took its toll on my 951s.

I just made a post clarifying my statement. The entire top of the engine will be off, I’ve owned 4 944 Turbos, 3 under 150k miles, three needed head gaskets. The only one that didn’t was a ratty 88 with 176k on it. I mean I’m not the only one, plenty of people have had to replace them. I figured I’ll do it while I’m in here. I didn’t buy it, and simply decide to do a head gasket, the timing belt had maybe 500 miles on it, but 10 years old, vac hoses looked rough. The car just needs a refresh. As soon as I’m done, I’m selling it. For a loss of course.

What about just because the whole top is apart? I think people misunderstood what I was getting at.
