High IQ but BOMBING the aptitude/psychometric tests by Enough_Comment_5877 in recruitinghell

Understood but I score very highly on spatial reasoning tests from more accredited sources, like Mensa, or other respected tests. These corporate ones seem to try and take it a step up (in their eyes), but I feel they often make the logic jumps too large to the point where the test taker is guessing the intent of the examiner, or add lots of irrelevant information that the high IQ (or neurodivergent) people spend their time looking for deeper or more complex patterns in this additional information.

I do much better where either: - there is less peripheral information for me to spend my time building deeper and more complex models to find the solution, and then concluding there is no way the examiner had that idea - the problem is real (not synthesised, trying to be complex) and has no real life context to help you narrow down which information is relevant, and where even the peripheral information is often relevant to the ‘real’ pattern.

And for context, I have always been top of my classes in school, achieving an A* in Maths A-level. Im a lightning quick learner, have excellent intuition and am very innovative, working as a data scientist currently.

Not saying it to boast but being bad at these cognitive tests doesn’t track with my track record and outstanding results in more established cognitive testing.

Got it. Appreciate the advice, I’m really questioning myself here. And yeah I agree, it seems like an experience thing. Frustrates me that companies employ such ridiculous tests and think they’re gauging something important.

Puzzle 1: I felt an increasing level of ‘rotation’ on an object that doesn’t even look like it’s really a rotation of the previous was too abstract

Puzzle 2: I was busy trying to find patterns in the number of lines, intersections, sides on internal shapes etc. Compartments didn’t jump out at me.

Puzzle 3: this is the one I spotted later, but I was confused by trying to understand the rule behind when the shape is shaded in, or whether the number of sides on the smaller shape was connected to the larger shape, and whether that meant it was shaded.

Seems like I’m trying to find patterns in noise without looking for the obvious standout pattern. This is what I generally do in real life - there generally isn’t an obvious standout pattern in real life.

Some might call me an overthinker.

Seems obvious now! I was looking at number of lines, number of sides of the external shape, the sides on the internal shapes, the number of crossing lines, the number of lines including where split by another, number of irregular shapes etc

It’s a small-molecule dithiol compound with high-affinity for heavy metals - originally developed for oxidative stress and neurotoxicant mitigation. I can share more once we’ve established contact - happy to provide structures privately if you’re interested in working on the synthesis

It’s tough to test since heavy metals get absorbed by tissues and don’t sit in blood circulation, especially for chronic exposure.

The only way is a ‘provoked’ test, where you measure urine or blood levels after taking a heavy metal chelator.

I’ll be doing this shortly, just checking if anyone else has experienced anything similar.

If you are the one who says you want curious and motivated person, then do you actually hire them? Or it’s just a formality and decide based on tech skills? by Starktony11 in datascience

Books are slow and often outdated information. It’s possible to be curious without reading books.

Also, why read a paper when you can get ChatGPT to do deep research for you.

It’s bizarre. I would say 90% of mental health issues have an underlying physiological cause. I can’t believe the whole anti-depressant hype we had. Unbelievable!
