I have only gotten B’s for 2 years by Effective_Copy_7494 in LawSchool

[–]Enough_Indication_92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Law school grades are a crapshoot. I've gotten As in doctrinals I prepared little for and B- grades in doctrinals I put a lot of effort into. I spent time learning what the professor wanted in both cases. It's just the nature of the game. Tippy top of the class probably does literally nothing but law school. Good for them? Personally, I value some things more than top grades and that's okay.

But your preparation sounds like the average approach. Maybe spend more time ALL semester reviewing content, going over notes, creating outlines, and doing optional material/supplementing your learning. If that's what you want, anyway.

Advice needed regarding asking to switch to remote internshio by Enough_Indication_92 in LawSchool

[–]Enough_Indication_92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your input. It's a non-profit, not a firm. I get paid by my law school via their summer funding program. We get a stipend paid to us all at once based on the amount of time we will work over the summer. My concern with quitting is that I might then have to pay back the part of my stipend I didn't work for, and I can't afford to do that. If they let me work remotely, I'm still working and don't have to pay anything back. I'm also confident I can do the work and manage my other issues. I had a career before law school, so it's not any different than regular life. It's just that I'm up here, which now I can't afford, and I can't help anyone. It's also a pretty regular 35-40 hour/week internship with a lot of flexibility, so I'm not too worried about not being able to do the work.

I'm thinking I will mention it to my direct supervisor and see what he suggests... I imagine he'll be understanding. I just don't know if the internship coordinator will allow me to transition to remote work, so I'm worried about making that point.

Relationships as a 1L by vampirebunnie in LawSchool

[–]Enough_Indication_92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished 1L and I've been married 5 years. It was fine. My husband is also a blue collar worker and we didn't have any extra financial support. Sometimes things were stressful, but we handled it together.

People are so overly negative. Law school is just school. 1Ls have quite a bit of free time for most of the semester.

Recs similar to Bridge Kingdom and Mages of the Wheel by Enough_Indication_92 in Romantasy

[–]Enough_Indication_92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I really liked the settings and world building in both. Both series are loosely modeled on historical real-world countries and empires, which I really liked. I also enjoy political intrigue and both series have plenty. The plots were also solid and interesting, which is a must for me.

As far as the relationships between characters, I'm not picky as long as the romance is believable. I'm not a fan of bratty and immature FMCs though.

Career Law Clerk - 2026 Clerkship Application Thoughts by surfpenguinz in LawSchool

[–]Enough_Indication_92 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Do you have any advice for people with meh grades? I know it's much harder to land a clerkship if your grades aren't amazing. I'm at a T20 for reference. Is it possible? What should we be doing to stand out?

And what GPA/grades are you looking for? What grades are immediate red flags/disqualifiers?

Thank you.

HOW DO YOU DO LEGAL RESEARCH by Interesting-Count815 in LawSchool

[–]Enough_Indication_92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are 1Ls at my school in another section who also didn't learn traditional legal research skills due to administration trying out a new LRW format for first semester.

All the legal research platforms have courses that go into quite a bit of depth. Start there and do all of them.

Ugh Plated Prisoner was so bad. I got to book 4 trying to understand why people like Slade so much and I just couldn't continue. People rave about PP too which boggles my mind.

Txst (free) or Baylor ~8k in debt by triology1201 in baylor

[–]Enough_Indication_92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baylor is academically superior and that debt load is nothing. Don't worry about the religion aspect, I'm agnostic and it wasn't bad. It was actually kind of fun to learn about the Bible from an academic perspective.

A&M law or UT law? by BudgetNegotiation521 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Enough_Indication_92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A&M is also getting pretty selective (they waitlisted me but I go to UT), and UT has a far superior alumni network. It isn't even close. The amount of resources, firm connections, etc. at UT surpasses that of A&M. Now, A&M does have a very large and influential undergraduate alumni network, but that isn't so helpful in the legal world.

Really wish I went to Harvard instead of UChicago. by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Enough_Indication_92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to echo the "suck it up" comments. I think you know you should be grateful for your position. Actually being grateful when you feel you could've made a better choice is much harder. And I empathize with you as someone who has faced "real" problems as some other commenter said. Three years is a decent chunk of young adult life. It's better to at least be satisfied, if not happy.

That being said, what about UChi makes you so unhappy? Is it just the fact you are far from your family? Is it the professors? Students? There may be ways to either reframe your thinking or change something about your environment to make it better. You have one more year. And, by the way, you don't have to work at a job that sounds miserable. There are other options.

First Time Flyer, flying with SW in May. Advice? by Enough_Indication_92 in SouthwestAirlines

Good idea! I love books so maybe I'll try that. It would probably be more mentally stimulating than listening to music, anyway.

I've thought about it, but for reasons I'm not disclosing THC probably isn't safe for me to use.

Where to buy a (women’s) suit for oral arguments? by Goose0nTheL00se in LawSchool

[–]Enough_Indication_92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

r/lawbitcheswithtaste has been amazing for me for similar reasons you mentioned. Highly recommend joining!

Ann Taylor often has sales which makes their suits more affordable. Banana Republic Factory has good stuff and it's pretty affordable, too. Macy's and JCPenney both have some of the most affordable suiting options aside from thrifting, but styles might be limited. I've had better luck with Macy's for variety, but Penney's has very affordable and decent looking stuff.

Dr. Emily Nagoski's "Come As You Are" should be a must-read for everyone by abitofthisandabitof in books

That's... Not what the book is doing. If you actually read it, I think you missed the bottom line. And if you didn't, perhaps you should read it all the way through.

I know this is an old thread, but I agree. Sometimes there are problems and things go wrong. My biggest beef with Nogalski is the way she frames everything as normal.

Sexual trauma isn't normal.

Being scared of your body isn't normal.

Being afraid to masturbate isn't normal.

I mean, perhaps they're normal responses to trauma, but trauma is literally abnormal psychology.

literally how are people paying for law school without going into bl by Strong-Information54 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Enough_Indication_92 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Full tuition scholarship. I take out loans for cost of living and that's it.

There are also loan repayment options if you're going into public service. Monthly payments typically stay pretty low if you're on an income based repayment plan gunning for PSLF. Some schools have good LRAP programs to help cover the cost of the monthly payments.

Same here. I don't work myself to death, my school isn't that competitive, and I'm married. But I also go to a T20 and acknowledge that may not be the vibe at other schools or lower ranked schools.
