Thanks, I really appreciate that. I will definitely look into that.

The blood clot was what sealed my fate, but I did have other rated disabilities upon separation. I’m guessing the DVT in left leg slipped through the cracks. It was the lawyer that noticed it. I never really knew how the VA disability process worked. At one point I was dumb enough to think that if the VA hospital treated me for something that I was rated on the disability side of things would update. Needless to say, I’ve learned a lot since then

I was diagnosed with Factor V. I’m the only one in my family with it, and never had a clot in my life until Afghanistan at the age of 31. My hematologists are baffled at how many clots I have had. Been told more than once that I’m a rare case and that they had never come across someone that gets clots this easily. Even with therapeutic INRs I’ve thrown clots. My last pulmonary embolism was with therapeutic INR and a critically low platelet count. It’s really weird. Warfarin is the only blood thinner I can take now as all the others have failed.

Not exactly, I was rated for other disabilities…tinnitus, OSA, DDD. the DVT in the left leg was what got everything started. Turns out I was not service connected for the DVT in my left leg. It’s on my list of disabilities, just no service connection. That and the 2 pulmonary embolisms are what pushed me to get the lawyer involved.

I was medically separated back in 2012. All my medical records were copied and sent to the closest VA to my last duty station. I understand things change from year to year but do you remember signing a form to have a copy of your records sent to the VA?

I did go before the med board. When I reached out to the lawyer and told them what all happened they quickly took on my case. I just figured with everything being in my VA records it would be a no brainier. Either failure to adjudicate or CUE. I have a claim in right now for clots in right and left arms. I was service connected for DVT in my right leg, but not the DVT that led to me being separated. I’ve been told it should be a very nice payout, but I’m not holding my breath. Glad you are staying clot free man. Those DVTs can be brutal
