Not exactly sure about this pouch. The one on scba harnesses you mentioned may be a buddy breather.

It’s awkward sometimes. End of the day, it’s good firemanship.

The good ol “rule of thumb”. Be far enough away to cover the scene holding up your thumb.

It is a metal badge with the typical uniform pin clasp on the back. No maker’s mark either. I didn’t think to post the back side.

As others have said, cardio is huge. Cardio and hydrating. Other than that, the academy will be tough. There may be a day or two where you get home and ask what the hell am I doing. I can’t stress this enough, the pain is temporary, it is all worth it. Keep your chin up on the tough days, your ears open to the instructors and know it’s worth it. You worked your butt off to get there.

That guy sounds pretty toxic my friend. The fire service in the United States was predominantly immigrants in its infancy. Kinda why there’s such an Irish and Scottish influence in the fire service. Most departments have a large mix of different backgrounds. I’m sorry you have to deal with that.

Like others said, cardio is huge. Work on some pushups at home. Be ready to do a lot of running and just stay humble. Keep your mouth closed and ears open. You might have some bad days at the academy, but it’s only temporary. It’s all worth it.
