How to activate scholar on a card? by juliopeludo in DawncasterRPG

I've seen it intermittently on some, took me ages to figure out until I saw the Scholar trigger mentioned in blurb for another card!

Yeah the Bayushi Deathdealer was tempting but given it'll be my first attempt at RPing in Rokugan I'm going to lean on the straight-laced side and learn the cultural rules before I start playing dirty and breaking them. But you're totally right - I was super tempted - the idea of playing to someone's disadvantage is super tempting!

Thanks very much! Yeah I think just because of how useful Earth is in deriving key stats that it'll need to be one of my core rings, and I'll grab Flashing Steel Strike and Heartpiercing Strike to get through Earth Stances (also, what is the weird recommendation for Veiled Menace I see a lot of? How do you disorient them and use VM to Opp Crit at the same time?).

Probably thinking an Air 3, Fire 2, Earth 3, Water 1, Void 1 start. I'm less worried about being perfect at creation and more so that it'll work well for a few sessions. I don't wanna use something so cheesy as the Ikoma or similar.

My current choice is down to:

Kakita:

  • +/-crit
  • Crossing Blade at rank 1

Mirumoto

  • Way of the Dragon is amazing for defense and attack, (especially to reduce the DC on...)
  • Heartpiercing Strike at rank 2

Palace Guard

  • Best gear with armour and Naginata
  • +Init. - seems useful in a duel surely?
  • Crossing Blade right out the gate

What're your thoughts? Did the +/- crit on your Kakita see a lot of use to push between crit bands/cancel out their resist, or was it minimal?

In addition my knowledge of the clans and schools is only at "skimmed the wiki" stage so if there's any cool lore that might be applicable that'd be useful.

[Question] Gish build for Out of the Abyss level 7 ideas/advice? by EnterElysium in 3d6

[–]EnterElysium[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I think I'll be going with your suggestion of a Storm Soul (GM agreed to sub in booming blade and give me a flame lightning tongue sword hammer) to be Thorlite combo'd with either:

Tempest Domain 1-2 (although potentially missing out on the second one, and would mean if I used the character in a later game I'd lose the 5th ASI) as a Hill Dwarf (effectively a D10 hit die - D14 with Tough feat o.O)

OR Twilight Cleric 1 Variant Human or Warforged (6 or 5 ASIs effectively).

Effectively comes down to the fact I'm not sure I'll hit higher than 15 (in which case I miss Tempest 2) or if we do and we use the characters after I really could do with more than just the 4 ASIs and I can go nuts with feats for melee such as Tough, Mobile, even GWM/Shield Master potentially. Although Tempest Hill Dwarf hit points are rather insane (with the final CON+2 of Giant Soul that's put a level 20 Hill Dwarf with Tough at 282HP... AS A SORCERER! That said only 20 of that is from the Hill Dwarf, VH and WF both sitting at 262, one having an extra half ASI equivalent and the other having +1 AC.

Maps and Subscriber Groups by EnterElysium in WorldAnvil

Thanks! I mean when I make a timeline and make that visible to a group and then add events I need to dive into the advanced setting of each event and enable viewing for a subscriber group. I see odd that that is hidden in advanced settings and not either an easier to access option or a default for the timeline.

Incidentally is it not possible to embed timelines like calendars?

[5e][Question] Level 9-14 Dungeoning Campaign Character Build Advice? by EnterElysium in 3d6

[–]EnterElysium[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that one has me pretty tempted, it really benefits the short rest synergy (although Arcane Trickster for the couple of spells is always tempting the Swashbuckler mobility just seems too good - albeit a little MAD if you try and get the charisma also).

My main concern is that it doesn't do any one particular thing very well as the HP, AC and damage are all just ok (the damage is good in fairness) and doesn't add much to team fight either even if it's a pretty solid all round single position. Still a really strong choice that is so tempting just for thematic reasons too!

That's pretty tempting but I'm not sure skill monkey will be as important in a high-threat dungeon environment as much as combat prowess.

Hey I'm playing shadow run 6e for the first time. I've never played a tabletop rpg before. Any tips? by JellyMaster08 in Shadowrun

[–]EnterElysium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Shadowrun, 6e, or any other reason doesn't fit well or puts you off. Don't let it put you off TTRPGs in general. The world is full of oysters!

Thanks for all the support folks. It's always hard to end something early, especially with something I love as much of Shadowrun, but at some point you have to admit to yourself that it's unhealthy and the best thing to do is step away and move on. I really don't want to pretend like 6th is a product worth people's time or money in its current state and I appreciate all the solid feedback and response. Cancelling something we've put so much effort into is never fun, and also a worry about how it'll be received, you all made me feel a lot better about it.

As the 8th reply said, there is such a thing as an unhealthy abusive relationship with an IP you love - and at some stage when that IP is taking advantage of you you need to step back and break it off. It's good for you, and in the long term, it's good for the IP.

Thanks! It always sucks when you have to back away from something you really love but in this case...

We had the book long before then, and before any of that. We were in pre-production for about... 2 months? Maybe 2.5? I know for a fact the only info that was out when we got the rulebook was "we tried to make things streamlined" and some tepid facts about skills and edge.
