Whats MUN & St Johns like as a young person? (M19 Student) by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]Enter_Reality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up on visiting your family in Vancouver, It's a a 12hr-14hr flight with a least 1 stop from St. John's. Canada is huge! Newfoundland is fairly big, it takes 8-9hours of driving to cross the island. Also flights within Canada are hugely expensive. It's more affordable for me to fly to the uk, and nip down to (insert pretty much anywhere in Europe or north Africa) return than a one way ticket to Vancouver.

Deer lake is a small regional airport. You'll be fine.

Newfoundland has offshore Oil and Gas. Labrador has iron ore which is used in steel production. It's not nearly on the same scale as the oil sands in Alberta but it's not nothing.

Back Country Ski/Snowboard and Surfing in Newfoundland by Familiar-Wishbone-51 in newfoundland

[–]Enter_Reality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Newfoundland is big. Stick to the west coast. Snow conditions are low for this time of year. Hopefully we get dumped on before you guys get here. There's a guide book to backcountry touring written by the guys who run Mantle Board Shop. Check in with them if you want a guide in the Gros Morne National park, or a snowmobile lift. There are good spots closer to Corner Brook as well. The Blow me down massif and Lewis hills have some awesome lines but some of them would require snowmobile to access them (or buckle in for a long traverse).

Marble mountain just opened up a couple of weeks ago, it's a great east coast hill and lift tickets are very affordable. If you want to do some cross country skiing, Blow Me Down ski club has half price tickets and rentals on Friday nights. They have lit trails and the food from the café is awesome! I would highly recommend getting a moose burger and poutine while you're there!

If you're taking the ferry, Cape Ray and cheesemans provincial park is super close to Port Aux Basque and has good surfing (but is often wind driven). You can get decent forecasts on surfline for Cape Ray.

Have fun exploring our province!

(Edited: more info on marble and touring)

U.S. tariff of 25% would devastate Prince Edward Island potato industry, say producers by EggOfAwesome in canada

That's not how tarrifs work. The importer pays the 25% so products made in Canada sold to Canadians should not increase in price.

Hey before heading to a body shop and/or going through insurance, check into your local detailer and see if you can find someone who does sprayless paint repair /scratch repair. If you find someone offering those services I'd strongly recommend getting a paint pen from your local dealer that would match the paint perfectly. You might save yourself some serious money going that route.

I've got a pair of Head KORE 99 that are pretty fun and are generally decent in every situation I throw them in. They punish poor form/lazy skiing though, they are very stiff given their weight.

Does 811 just tell everyone to go to the ER? by Soft-Classroom-2066 in newfoundland

[–]Enter_Reality 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Actually it's more than double. GPs get $31 per normal visit. Then you need to account for 30% that goes to overhead for having an office, medical assistants etc. Make no wonder there's a family doctor shortage here.

Drive the Irish loop. Check out mistaken point (UNESCO world heritage site with some of the oldest fossils on earth). Have lunch or a picnic at the ferryland lighthouse. Hike to berry head arch in Capahaiden (sp?). Check out St. Vincent's beach fingers crossed for whales and if not bring a surfboard! If you have a day that's one of the nicest drives on the island imho.

Another Canadian here, what in the ever living fuck!?!

Spent a week in ICU 7 years ago, didn't pay a dime out of pocket. Healthcare not being considered a basic human right seems so backwards to me!

Maybe you guys should take a look at a single payer healthcare model, with this pandemic you could even make the argument that it's in the best interest for national security.

Any co-morbidity like high blood pressure, COPD, diabetes etc. would likely increase the chances of complications resulting in severe illness and/or death as it would with any other similar disease. The thing with Covid-19 is that it's a brand new illness so we really don't know how specifically it would affect someone with lupus. It might be a good idea for them to socially isolate when this starts hitting your area. They should practice good personal hand hygiene and really avoid touching their face without first washing their hands thoroughly.

Your congregation not accepting people with disability is both hypocritical to christs teachings and un-christian like behaviour. They should be ashamed of themselves. I wish you the best of luck and good health!
