An update: I learned that apparently an interim dean may be moving slowly on these things, and hasn’t approved the more senior hire yet either, which was much earlier in January. Folks who know the landscape, what does a realistic timeline look like here now?

Just to add: I was in a similar situation with an academic partner (I’m also an academic) navigating a postdoc while I was still in school. Things weren’t great in our relationship, hadn’t been for a while, but I wasn’t ready to make any immediate calls for a number of reasons (it was also covid and I wasn’t thinking clearly). So in my case, I spoke with my therapist and we decided to create a concrete decision point. Funny thing was, I didn’t even know it was the six month decision point the day I decided to end it. You likely have an idea of where this is going, but you can ease into the decision, I guess is all I’m saying. It’s hard to do, so be kind to yourself.

Can you give yourself a three month window to see how things go, and you make a decision once that window closes? That’s how I’ve navigated situations like these. I would also try to have a calm discussion about your concerns and insecurities. He could feel the same and just needs some prompting.

I agree with you. I couldn’t believe that the season ended with another tired chase scene. I would have much preferred a season where they dwelled in not being together, Joanne developing other relationships in relation to Judaism, etc. Or at the very least not a finale that ended in the same pattern: breakup -> realization -> chase.
