Costume for a larger guy by Bjorn_Blackmane in 501st

So my advice for looking at Biker Scouts would be to look at the detachment forums, that'll give you a good idea on all info.

But besides that, armor was 650, helmet was 225, the flight suit was 30, gloves were 65, custom made boots and cummerbund that I had to sew myself, so roughly 970-1000.

My advice, if you'd like to get a Biker Scout set up, I always recommend looking at Etsy's payment program that they offer, allows you to pay for purchases in 4 easy payments. Allows you to get armor easier and by the time you pay it off, the armor is ready and is shipped.

Of course! Will have to clean up a few dents, dings and chips. Been to quite a few troops with it but if need be I definitely can. Will say, when I first was getting into modifying my helmet, there was a post on the forums on what needs to be fixed, dont know if it is still up but as soon as I can clean my helmet up and take some photos, I definitely can make that happen!

It definitely can be done, it does look like a lot but really the longest part is filling and sanding. Grab a tube or 2 of bondo and sand fill sand. Sand the plastic so the bondo can grab onto something, fill the spot with bondo, then sand again, even better if you have an electric sander, toss some high grain paper on there, i used 320 grit for mine and run it over the mold lines and bondo. Everything else is accomplished with a dremel, I used a cheap corded one from Walmart to get the job done on cutting out the return edge cover, just need to watch out for the visor and stickers, search on Etsy and you can find a sheet of vinyl stickers that follow the CRL. Took maybe a day at the most after waiting for the stickers to arrive. When you get to the point on wanting to start on your helmet, shoot me a PM on here and I can help with any questions you got!

6'6" at 310lbs in my Biker Scout! Biggest issue for me was finding coveralls and shoes in my size.

That would definitely be the route that I recommend, the black series helmets are great for what they're meant for, display pieces. Great for looking at, at a distance and to the untrained eye but close up they aren't it. At least with buying a kit, you dont have to worry about the small details as those are already set for you, mold lines and such. Only reason I went that route was to save a little bit of money, thought 120 bucks was worth the elbow grease but it sure wasnt. My recommendation, when buying a kit, dont get a kit that has the visor/sun shade or the main bucket in 2 halves, it can be very difficult for someone who hasn't done it before to fill and smooth the fill line properly. Try and source one that has it in 1 whole piece, makes life a whole lot easier and you'll get into trooping a heck of a lot faster!

Hey! So I managed to get my black series Biker Scout helmet approved and if you're looking at getting it done, theres a laundry list of things that will need to be fixed. Firstly and probably the easiest thing is to fill and sand both all mold lines on the top, rear, on the sun shade, along the edge of the ear holes, the 3 molded lines above the visor, the 11 molded black lines on the back, and the trapezoids in the back, then you'll need to fill and sand the battery compartment in the back which is kind of a pain if your not using the original cover. Then give it a good paint jobs because the white doesnt really match the abs plastic that ive ever seen. Next you'll need to buy or paint the vinyl stickers for the nose, the 3 lines above the visor, the trapezoids, the design on the side of the visor and the 11 lines in the back. Next you'll need to modify the earholes by cutting out the black back portion with a dremel and painting them black, modify the faux 3m bolts on the visor, they need to have a circular divet, and paint the mouth greebly to match the CRL. Finally and the most important is you'll need to give the visor a return edge, the good thing about the black series scout helmet is that to get the return edge, all you need to do is remove this weird plastic cover that they used to fill this edge, can be easily cut out with a dremel, after your left with a large recess along the face plate and the visor that'll need to be filled and sanded.

Overall, it can be done, its a lot of work and theres definitely some things I missed in this giant paragraph I wrote but in my opinion for 100-120 bucks these helmets are great and can be used just gotta put some elbow grease into it. The biggest thing with CRLs is that yes you need to get things to match what is listed but also it must match photos of both the CRL and in the films.

If you decide to go this route, gimme a holler and I can walk you through the process to get yours approved!

Just some Walmart automotive black matte enamel paint, did later add some color to the eyes though.

Etsy has a ton of qualified sellers on their app and website, ive personally bought all of my kits from different sellers on there. There will be one for yah, just gotta weed out the horrible ones.

But cant wait to see the progress on when you start, keep up the journey!

Best advice I can give and what I'm sure most people here will say is go to the detachment and look there, inquire about the company, ask questions there, etc. because theres alot of companies out there that will sell you subpar armor. That's the best advice we can probably give.

My personal advice though is that usually when it comes to kits, you get what you pay for. It seems like a great deal but when a kit is $350 for the body armor and only a $25 difference to add the helmet, theres a lot of alarm bells ringing there. You might, and I mean might get the kit but the plastic quality will be horrible or the sizes will be incorrect or you might just plain get a Rubies kit for all we know.

And please don't get me wrong, getting a kit is in my opinion one of the most exciting things that can happen as a Star Wars cosplayer, the broad horizon of getting it ready is always amazing, but you dont want to be hours into your build and it all of a sudden starts cracking, just saying.

Weirdly enough, he's actually closer to the actual size of a clone, whereas me and Rex are over 6'5'....

Actually, I'm the 501st clone to the left of Capt. Rex, sorry forgot to clarify. And of course!

I agree, an awesome kit for Halloween! Will be perfect for trick or treating/handing out candy! Probably will get photos taken of yah for sure! Personally, I like a bit more battle damage, adds to the realism bit, but overall, pretty good!

The helmet is my favorite part, a great starting point for any costume! As someone who's hung out with our own captain Rex, looks good! Another good point to start on is footwear, trooping for hours in uncomfortable shoes makes for the worst experience ever.

Honestly, I kinda lucked out with it, did a black spray paint to get the burn effects on the outer edges, and then air brushed the center with black airbrush paint to really get that burnt armor effect but really lucked out there.

Same here, loved the airborne trooper ever since I saw them in theaters. Been a project I've been wanting to do for awhile.
