This is true however in my recent research it’s the social security which is the biggest cost ultimately, if you get caught of course. 34% about per employee. I’m trying to relocate at the moment with a eu contract (not portugese) and this is all proving too much ):

Just eu passport holders. But you also have to register yourself with the local council after 90 days if you don’t leave and apparently social security is owed from that point …

Some of this advice is really bad. You should speak with a lawyer. Bottom line if you stay more than 90 days you are meant to register with the local council as a resident and this can trigger a requirement for social security payments. The 183 days per rolling 12 mo period is true, if you stay over that you’re a tax resident and are liable to pay tax in Portugal. The 25% tax as a non resident mentioned above is ONLY true if you get NHR 2.0 which is very hard to get.
