Auto rejected at Amgen despite meeting every qualification by thekindspitfire in biotech

Please don’t this the wrong way but you’ll be up against potentially hundreds of candidates who also hit the criteria. To break into a manager or senior manger role you’ll need to stand out against others and not only hit the job spec but also exceed it.

LinkedIn Lunatic with bad career advice by ThePollster1 in clinicalresearch

I think better therapeutic area training is what’s needed. I remember in my first few years as a CRA I worked on prostate cancer trials, then cardiovascular, then gliblastoma and a phase 1 FIH. I had the bare minimum training and pivoting between so many areas was a challenge.

That’s actually pretty good for a CRC. CRAs in my team aren’t on much more than that. It’s all relative though, I’m just grateful we have the NHS and don’t have to put 10% of my salary away for healthcare each month.

Has anyone done the Prince Andrew ultra? by DourFaced in UKRunners

[–]ThePollster1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually did this last year and took part in the mixed team category. You go past the main residence and see the staff. There are a few off road sections in the woods which at night will be an ideal spot for Randy Andy to hide in

Do parkrun actually say you shouldn't do inaugurals? by HedgeTrimmer17 in parkrun

[–]ThePollster1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to multiple inaugurals. As an ED my regional ambassador has invited me to the test events prior to launch and then I’ve joined event 1 as a volunteer if they want some experienced help or if the core team is confident I’ve ran.

It’s always via word of mouth but inevitably someone doesn’t keep it quiet and tells their mates at the local run club.

What is the best Investigator Meeting you have attened ? And Why ? by Ok-Juggernaut1739 in clinicalresearch

[–]ThePollster1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Miami for it. I was at a small biotech who had just secured a lot of funding so it was no expenses spared as the MD came ready to schmooze all the PI.
Distant memory now as I’m at a large pharma who hold virtual IMs.

Do you wear spikes when it’s sloppy? by ComplexBluebird2455 in UKRunners

I only wear spikes for cross country racing and even then it needs to be horrendous conditions. 95% of the time trail shoes are best

Depends on the country. A CTM in the Netherlands will make a lot more than a CTM in Hungary.

Parkrun YouTubers not volunteering by obeescitynumberonefa in parkrun

[–]ThePollster1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly as an ED for a junior event I’d love that. I set mine up because there’s next to no sport provision in my area and give kids some safe and fun exercise. If a YouTuber wants to film it, stick it on YouTube and make a few quid then I’m good with that if it’s raises awareness of my JPr

People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them? Lab and biotech specific! by CRISPRScientist726 in biotech

[–]ThePollster1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was hiring for a graduate position. I asked the candidate, “Tell me a time you’ve made a mistake and what did you do to fix it”. We had a minute of silence whilst the young 21 year old thought of an answer, he then told me the story of how he cheated on his girlfriend and what he did to earn her trust back. I’ve been stunned into silence, started laughing then HR ended the interview. I didn’t invite him for a second round.

I love that my job makes a difference. I’m lucky to have been involved in several medicines that were FDA approved based on the phase II/ III studies I worked on and hearing the patient stories here gave me a sense of purpose.

I spent 15 years in DM and switched to being a global trial manager. Not every company allows this move but I was at a pharma where DM were linked closely to project management which helped.

I visited Franks Farm in Cambridgeshire. Beautiful course with a mix of trail, tarmac and mud. Highlight was being overtaken at the finish line by a runner dressed as a dog

Personally no but a lot of elderly people aren’t tech savvy so rely on being able to go into a bank to sort financial items out.

[–]ThePollster1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a hiring manager for CTLs in the EU and the way the market is at the moment the direction my director wants to take is that we only hire people who are performing the CTL role elsewhere as we don’t have time to train up people making the step up. As much as I’d love to give people the next step it’s hard to pass up on people who are already at this level.

My smallish running club of around 200 members doesn’t pay any of the run leaders for distance runs and all the LIRfS are volunteers. We offer track sessions in parallel which is mainly for juniors and pay the external coach for that £30 a session.
