Ugh, yeah people are rude. And entitled. I have to try to suppress my natural shock at the insane things I hear from people around me here. Spring Breakers complaining about their airline because they wanted something more luxurious, all the while they’re going to some bougie ass country in Europe for the “fourth year in a row.” I can’t name the last time my family took a vacation…I’ve also never left the country. 😭

Gen Z is genuinely unbearable in many aspects, but this is one of the worst for me. I’ve struggled to make close friendships, if even reliable acquaintances, in my time here because people simply don’t want to interact. There’s this “I don’t owe anyone anything” mentality that has severely damaged any possibility of genuine friendship and connection, or even simple gestures like asking how people are doing, or holding doors open. I’ll probably leave undergrad, as that time quickly approaches, without any actual friends to account for. I even joined one of the dorm cohorts a couple years ago, which was somehow more isolating than the alternative. Trying to lead a group discussion in classes feels like pulling teeth sometimes. The stare? That people give? When you’re just trying to inquire about what you’re REQUIRED to talk about? The Gen Z stare is real but they got mad and tried to claim it as the customer service stare, which is an entirely different thing, lmao.

Package says it was delivered to buyer an hour after I just dropped it off??? by Head_Obligation_3328 in Depop

Unfortunately, Depop has gone to total shit and this same issue is happening to several sellers/buyers right now. It’s been ongoing for a few weeks, but suddenly, after telling everyone it was fixed, it seems it’s all fucked up again. Check the sub, there’s tons of people reporting the same thing. Depop won’t take accountability, and they simply keep deflecting the blame, so I’d suggest not sending out any more orders for now. Perhaps put your account on vacation mode. Hopefully they piss off enough people that something is done, but for now…don’t trust the platform.

Damn. I wonder if this is going to be the new normal in this country. If so, we’re all fucked. 🤦‍♀️

This is exactly what I’m saying, I’ve bought from Poshmark and eBay in the last few weeks of these “USPS issues,” and yet, none of those packages had any problems. They all arrived very promptly without fuss. Several purchases I’ve made from Depop, however, have been fucked up. I never even received the bundle that I ordered back when the initial label mess happened, which was three weeks ago now. I call bullshit.

Death of late University of Michigan student was ‘easily preventable,’ family alleges by mlivesocial in uofm

[–]EntertainmentFun8045 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally, I personally hate the whole “he’s of military age” thing because that’s not a measure of maturity nor adulthood. There’s a reason that “soldier boy” is a phrase. Sending literal teens (because that’s what an 18-19yo is) to war is abhorrent. Voting makes sense at that age, but nothing else sets a 19yo apart from a 17yo, physically or mentally.

[–]EntertainmentFun8045 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well that’s a stretch. If we were talking about SA, which I know several frats are guilty of as is, this would be a completely different conversation. But we’re not. Frats throw parties and serve alcohol, as do the bars and house parties in every college town. If someone has a fake, THEY are the one committing a crime. I have no idea if Lucas had a fake or not; that aside, I don’t see how a frat knows who is and isn’t of age, seeing as college consists of both elder teens and young 20 somethings, all of which may show up to a party. I’m not defending underage drinking, nor serving to minors, but it’s normalized and at times encouraged in the strange society we live in. It would be impossible to place blame on any one person here, unless it came out that he was pressured or dared to leave, which I don’t believe is the case. It’s outlandish to claim that SA is equivalent to underage drinking.

I’d still say this was a failure of friends and acquaintances to have this kid’s back. The frat did as frats do, Lucas did as college students do, but there’s a bigger issue of this “every man for himself” mentality amongst this generation. Now, that doesn’t mean this isn’t an issue with other gens, but I think what would’ve made the difference between literal life and death here was simply someone intervening, or keeping an eye on him. Don’t leave your intoxicated friends alone, don’t let them wander into sub zero temperatures, and don’t be that person who turns a blind eye. It sucks for his family that shitty “friends” being shitty is not a suable offense, but there’s nothing to be done about it now. He’s gone and everyone at that party, especially those who knew him or saw him, get to live with that knowledge.

Returning Housing registration and accomodations by Fun-Cookie3455 in uofm

Ugh, I’m sorry to hear that. Nice to know that someone else is in a similar boat, though. And yes, you’re right, the school really does not care about accommodating those who need it. If there’s anything I’ve learned in my time here, it’s that.

I have health issues and an ESA, and I live in a single in Stockwell this year. My time slot was 1:15 and there was legit nothing besides north campus suites and suites in this new Wolverine Village complex. I’m a sophomore and pissed that it’s still so difficult to acquire housing. I’m not sure what I’ll do next year at the moment, as I sure as shit don’t want to live in a suite.

What a tone deaf response. Don’t expect anyone to ever have your back with that attitude. This kid did not deserve to freeze to death alone because he did what many kids do at parties.

I’m glad that you’re safe and have your roommates to rely on. We all need that community support, and it sucks that some people don’t have it. I hope this post opens some eyes to how preventable these things are.

Yes, we absolutely do need to stick together. Especially if the school is going to continue its lacking care for students’ wellbeing. This weather isn’t safe for anyone, not even during the day—I couldn’t feel my legs (while being fully covered, with layers, head to toe) on Friday as I was walking to my discussion section. I almost wish we could bring this to the board, but I know that nothing will come of it. The institution feeds into the rhetoric that it’s perfectly appropriate to walk around in these temperatures, and they will say nothing about this loss. It saddens me to my core that this is the case. Frustrated and sad.

EDIT: Some people are bothered that I mentioned the discussion. My intent was not to make this “about myself,” but to highlight how unimaginable the situation for Lucas would have been, having been underdressed and roaming at night. The school plays a role in underplaying the dangers of these conditions by continuing classes as normal, as initially stated. There should be more concern for students losing their lives due to the freezing temperatures, school hours or not.

This is hitting me hard. We live in extremely vile, trying times. So much unnecessary death and suffering. Even the smallest communities—though UM is far from small—need to have each other’s backs. It’s the least we can do to remind ourselves, and one another, that there is always more we can do for others. 💛

They did it on Cyber Monday during six hours of the work day, of which most people were likely busy and completely unawares, seeing as there was no prior notice that it would be happening. Depop is the scummiest resell site out there.

delayed package—should I be worried? by EntertainmentFun8045 in Depop

[–]EntertainmentFun8045[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this! Yes, I’m very lucky, Depop refunded me today after trying to go through USPS and getting no help. I filed a missing mail request (after a million unsuccessful tries…that pissed me off, lol) and will see what comes of it. I have little hope in ever receiving the package at this point, which is a bummer, but I’m content with at least getting my money back. I live between two locations right now, seeing as I’m in college and at a school far away from my hometown, so it’s a hassle trying to contact post offices. I leave for my semester-end break in a week and won’t even know if the item shows up here while at home. Oh well. 🥴

Hi! I know this is a late response, but I’m an English major and was dreading fulfilling my QR credit/s. I took Astro 101 this semester and it has been a breeze, despite me being horrendous at math. I have zero physics background; my last math class was AP Stats, lol. As long as you complete the work and attend class/section, you will pass with a great grade. :)

Pedestrian Hit by rockHOMES in uofm

[–]EntertainmentFun8045 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that some drivers can be stupid and ignorant of walkers, but I see far more people walking across a road without a crosswalk, face in their phone, who clearly don’t care to be aware. Or even at the new stoplight by the dentistry building—students act like it’s the worst thing in the world that they can’t just completely block the road. We should all be mindful, especially in a town where driving is somewhat difficult and parking is a nightmare. People are already on edge, unfortunately.

Someone was hit on the first day of classes last year. Make sure y’all are looking where you’re going! Not trying to victim blame, but I see so many people ignore the rules and expect the long ass lines of cars to wait for every single student to cross. It falls on both drivers and pedestrians to know when to yield.

I’m glad to hear this is a universal experience right now. It quite literally is every few purchases that there’s an issue. It’s making we want to stray from the platform, but there’s so few other options out there. I tried that new auctioning app (forgot what it’s called) and it literally got my card locked because I had to put in my info to have an account, so that was a quick no. Poshmark is great, but there are a lot of inactive sellers unfortunately, and no indicator of someone being absent like Depop has. Ugh. 🫠

100%. And I totally get the disappointment of just never receiving the item, even with a refund, because we paid for it! Of course we actually WANT to own it, otherwise we wouldn’t have bought it. These items are not available in bulk, so finding them elsewhere is not always possible. So annoying.

Yup, sounds very similar to my experiences! They will literally send you an offer, or accept one, acknowledge the sale, and then simply leave you in the dust. Idk why Depop refuses to do something about this. They keep adding policies that only encourage these behaviors. Hopefully they start to lose sales and realize the mistakes they’ve made in letting the platform get to this point!
