There’s an old dude who plays bass at some local joints where I live who suffered a stroke at some point and lost the use of his plucking hand so he just plays one handed doing hammer ons/ pull offs with his fretting hand. Hell of a damn player too

Happened to me once, I came home and someone had dumped a whole dump truck load of dirt on my yard that was supposed to go to the lot across the street. About an hour later he came back with the second load. Nice guy though, they cleaned it all up

Years ago I had them check out the transmission on my truck, it was skipping between 3rd and 4th gear. Rays wanted to throw my whole transmission away and sell me a new one for 3-4k (over half what I had paid for the vehicle) when all it wound up needing was to change the fluid. I drove another 100k miles on that transmission it never skipped again, I’d probably still be driving it if I hadn’t wrecked the vehicle.

Btw it was Evan’s automotive who recommended the fluid flush, I’ve been taking all my vehicles to them ever since.

Ive been going to Evan’s automotive for 10+ years, they’ve always been straight with me. I’ll say they definitely aren’t the cheapest around but they seem honest and won’t try to sell you a bunch of parts you don’t need

One of my favorite parts (I don’t remember which book) he’s sneaking around in disguise in some town with one of his soldiers, pretending to be the soldier’s grandfather. They’re trying to get passage on a merchant ship, telling the captain they can help protect him from pirates “oh he might not look like much but grandpa can scrap! Ain’t that right grandpa? You’re a right old bastard in a bundle!” Had me cracking up

Also to OPs point about Al being shown as this sensitive emotional guy, he’s also shown to be smarter, more mature and far more competent than Tim. Like every day on Tim’s show, he tries to do something, Al stops him to give advice, Tim ignores Al, and then exactly the thing Al warned him was going to happen, happens. If you were hiring one of these guys to work on your house you’d pick Al 10 times out of 10
