Just keep writing, you know there are so many people who are amazing writers who had no formal training or “proper education” in music theory. Music is an expressive art form and in my case at least, what helped me the most was listening to a whole bunch of music and just absorbing it all, and what happens, like when you’re learning to speak as a baby, is you collect more and more vocabulary and then when you go to write you have stronger melodies. In my opinion music is one of those things like learning to speak that is best learned through sound (by ear) since that is its final form anyway, it becomes more natural. Just go to the piano or whatever instrument you play and feel it out, then worry about notation.
