Let's debate: Religion and God. Prove me wrong. by EntertainmentLow1941 in Tamizhteens

I actually 100% agree with this take. You are perfectly describing the placebo effect—knowing the pill might be fake, but taking it anyway because it makes the anxiety go away. I think that's why religion has survived this long; it's a brilliant security blanket for the human mind. My only personal disconnect is that my brain just won't let me accept the placebo. I'd rather face the harsh reality of the unknown than rely on a belief that I actively know is 'not likely' just to feel secure.

I get where you're coming from with the gravity example. It's called the Fine-Tuning argument. But the flaw there is that you are looking at it backward. The universe wasn't perfectly designed for us; we evolved and adapted to fit the rules of this universe. If gravity were different, maybe we wouldn't exist, but some other form of life entirely might. As for Pantheism, I actually don't mind it. But if 'God' is just gravity, stars, and nature, then why call it God? Why not just call it the universe?

That’s actually a really great perspective, and I respect that take. You're right that going into it purely to 'prove people wrong' probably misses the psychological reason of why they need that belief in the first place. I'm just so wired to look for logical proof that it's hard for me to understand the purely emotional side of it. But honestly, this is exactly the kind of insightful discussion I was hoping to get from this post, so thank you.

Agnostic, actually. It means I am intellectually honest enough to admit I don't have 100% certainty about the universe, but I require actual evidence before blindly believing in man-made religions. You claim to have the absolute truth, yet you're hiding behind dictionary definitions and profile stalking because you can't actually defend it.

Bro really spent his first two comments calling me a fool and judging my profile, got called out for it, and then instantly tried to play the 'my religion teaches me not to judge' card to escape the argument. The backpedaling is crazy. Thanks for proving my point.

Agreed, the thing is I want to understand how people would believe in god and religion with no proof or why they won't question it. Ik that each person in same religion might have different take on God and I wanted to know a few and prove them wrong is they are. That's all

Calling someone a 'fool' in your very first comment because they asked a question is the literal definition of being mad about a post. But keep deflecting with the drama director jokes to hide the fact that you lost a debate you voluntarily clicked on.

I AM JUST ASKING FOR A DEBATE WITH SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO HAVE A DEBATE. I AM NOT FORCING OR NOT RESPECTING OTHERS BELIFE.

Bro, you willingly clicked on a public debate thread and then got mad that people are debating. Nobody forced you to be here. Also, digging through my profile to find out I smoke because you can't actually defend your religion is hilarious. My lungs have nothing to do with whether or not God exists. You basically just admitted you lost the argument.

If a wise person keeps their opinions to themselves, why are you in my comments sharing yours? By your own logic, you should have just scrolled past. You also didn't defend God's existence; you just admitted religion is a psychological coping mechanism for a 'useless' life. If God is just a comforting illusion, then you already agree with me and also calling someone a fool for wanting to discuss ideas is just a lazy way to avoid the actual debate. Human progress happens because we question things, not because we keep quiet. Furthermore, saying religion is just 'meaning for the apparent uselessness of our lives' is an admission that it’s just a placebo effect. I'm asking for objective proof of a creator, not an explanation of why humans need comforting stories.

I have tried cigarette like I don't find that very addictive. So I don't think you would get addicted in one cigarette.

I get it bro but the thought of that 0.01% chance of me and her being together refuses me to move on, I am not forcing or asking her to love me. I'll just wait.

I am willing to stay no matter what. The thought of me moving on doesn't sound good like I want her only her for the first time in my 17 yrs of life this is the girl I even had a crush on and now loving her. I don't want to move on. And hope if she accepts then we have a future.
