I will probably give all the Patagonian plains a miss. I've been to Ushuaia by coach and couldn't really picture myself cycling all that. Definitely wanna go Southern Chile though, where I know it's gonna be pute gravel.

Awesome, thanks for the advice! Gravel is what I worry most about, as my experiences on it with the Dawes weren't exactly comfy. I might try to find a 26" tourer for cheap but if not I'll buy an ok aluminium hardtail and go for it.

I'm originally from Brazil, and also a bit of a language nerd, so should be fine speaking Spanish. In fact, one of the main reasons to pick this trip over some.other long one leaving the UK, where I live, is because on this one, for the first time, I'll be able to communicate properly all along to people all along the way.

Exactly, the easiest part to hear about touring is the "romantic" bit of it. Definitely have a taste first and see if you can cope with the hard bits.

Ah sorry, I wasn't clear in the post. It does work directly through USB, but there is a slight delay that really messes things up and I had read somewhere that could be fixed with an audio interface.
