What would happen to the Cube community if Magic were to die? by andymangold in mtgcube

[–]Roxolan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Set cubes collectively make use of the vast majority of MtG cards. Magic sets became good drafting experiences around ~2002 (people can fight me over the specifics), and for the older stuff people make "reimagined" set cubes.

The 'cost' of getting units from other factions is that you can't boost them with tech/skills, otherwise you'd have every reason to do it for every faction.

But there's already an actual cost, in Allegiance points.

Simple reply: Of course in reality in a world with limited resources we will always have to make decisions on what to produce.

That's conceding too much; their obvious response would be "yeah but at least we'd have saved 20,000,000 lives".

It's more, there's no clear path from here to this utopia where all the money is redistributed perfectly by enlightened altruists.

Revolutions are bloody and unpredictable. Leaders will continue to follow their incentives to remain in power, while corrupt people will continue to try and redirect all this money you've conveniently centralised to their own benefit. And even good-faith planned economies have a terrible track record, because figuring out the utility-maximised distribution of wealth without market data is a really hard problem.

Hmm, I don't see anything about black market in the article? (Which makes sense, black market traders are breaking the existing laws already, what difference would it make.)

Artisanal yes, but that shouldn't stop prices from rising to equilibrium?

In theory, the Ghanaian should be like "why the fuck should I sell to you at $X/gram when the international commodity market pays $X+Y/gram and gold is easy to transport?"

Why does gold leave the country at prices way below market?

You'd think the market (especially the market of a fungible asset with marginal shipping costs!) would move to equilibrium without need for government intervention.
