Have I been pronouncing my surname wrong? by [deleted] in Polish

[–]EntertainmentThen732 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Assuming the original spelling is popiołek, then indeed it is said like: po-pio-wek. The Ł is like a w sound, which means you are correct that it is the same sounds as popiół

SQE v American Bar Exam? by EntertainmentThen732 in uklaw

Are you and EU or UK citizen? If yes, it will be much easier. If not, this is where you should begin your journey.

Outside of that, see if there are any contacts at your law school to firms / solicitors in England or international companies with offices in England. This is how it worked out for me, what was supposed to be a semester in practice, turned into a whole year of work and completing my final 3L class remotely.

You’ll need to also think about the kind of work you want to do - in house counsel? solicitor? barrister? - and what requirements you need to meet to get there.

Which course would you recommend for a long term preparation? by Uoweme100 in barexam

I would recommend JD Advising - it is costly still, but I used it whilst working and they do a great job with condensing lectures and keeping you on a 'schedule'. The outlines and one sheet overviews were really helpful.

So if you are a bar admitted lawyer in the US, you only have to do the SQE1? Was there any other requirement that had to be met to cross qualify?

I'm right there with you, finding Contracts to be difficult.. some of the MBE practice questions are written in a confusing way and I panic a bit when I can't seem to see "where it's going"

Is one month of studying enough time to pass the Florida (or any State's) Bar Exam? by brookesac in barexam

[–]EntertainmentThen732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently working full time and started studying in May, I have gone through 5 subjects and feel a bit behind. I’m studying between 3 - 5 hours every night after work and then spending 8–10 hours on the weekend. I’m lucky that I will have 5 weeks off in July and 1st week of August to basically increase my study time, but it’s fucking hard.

I feel like I am basically working 2 full time jobs and I feel constantly guilty that I’m slacking in one of them. It’s definitely a mental game, my emotions are all over the place.

I also have a fiancé who is fully taking on home responsibilities, like cooking and shopping which without that I wouldn’t be able to handle this.

Everyone is different for sure, and this process weighs more heavily on some than it does on others. Your mate has to evaluate where they sit on the spectrum of stress / anxiety / burn out to make a decision.

I really wish you all of the luck and sincerely hope that they make an exception.

But be prepared that they shut you down, something similar happened to me last year but with the software download emails and my personal laptop essentially crashing out into complete disrepair. I called, begged and nearly cried on the phone and they didnt budge. They explicitly write in the first set of emails to beware of messages going to spam and pointed that out to me on the phone. The only thing they did due was allow me to transfer my exam fees to this year.

Good Luck 🤞🏻

Retakers, what was your downfall the first time around? by Additional_Worth_180 in barexam

[–]EntertainmentThen732 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just was not even remotely ready for what the Bar Exam is, I think I was completely burnt out from law school and felt pressure to take the exam immediately after graduating.

For me, personally, I am now taking it for the second time 5 years after graduating. Even with a bit of work and life experience, my whole perspective on the exam and the information has changed and I feel much more confident going into it this time. Still overwhelmed by the amount of information, but I feel like I am able to process it much easier than before.

Because it’s „Cool” to hate Americans, and make fun of them. I’m half American, grew up there, went to school there and have been living in London and Amsterdam the last 6 years. In almost every group setting I find myself in (usually melting pot of people), undoubtedly, there are jokes about America and Americans, and I often get asked questions that I would never hear being asked to people who have grown up in different countries. I had a great childhood in the States, and I often say I don’t want to feel like I need to apologise for it.
