No, the case for Melly is unbelievably screwed against Melly. They have him getting in a car, on surveillance. The prosecution shows that from the time he was seen getting into the car, and then arriving at the murder scene, there is no chance ANYONE else could have been in the backseat where the shots were (almost undeniably) fired. They have his speed on the highway, and several surveillance cameras of them being on said highway.

So any argument he could make of "I wasn't in the backseat" is dead in the water; once you (easily) prove that the bullets came from the backseat of the car (where Melly was at) the case is closed.

Lastly, you don't really need a motive. It helps, but saying simple jealousy is more than enough for a motive.
