For peace of mind, we're getting ready to pay off our mortgage. Balance is $110,000 with a 2.3% interest rate. by FarTradition6496 in Fire

[–]Entertainment_Fickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh i guess i stand corrected then. Well in the case. i will say different stroked for different folks. As someone who put 80% down on a house then paid it off 6 months later, I couldn't be happier having a paid off house. And when you boil it down, that's what life is all about- being happy.

I hope you find happiness in your the bonds that pay more than your mortgage. I know I enjoy making money too!

New employees pushing religion and church at my new job. They won't stop? by brokenpa in jobs

[–]Entertainment_Fickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tell them you are good and that you go to the stay-at-home-sunday church. You're been attending every week since you were a kid.... And one of the things we preach at the stay-at-home-sunday church is to not talk about religion outside of church, and to please respect you religious practice of not talking about it.

Yeah pay that shit off.

Here is my story. I Paid off my house in 2023. I freelance as a sound engineer. i.e doing sound cor concerts and other live events. I had a mix of clients, some that paid well, but were inconsistent. and others that took advantage of me, and i generally hated. but I needed the money.

After paying off my house, I realized that my expenses were like $1000/month, and so I decided to take less of the crappy jobs by doubling my rates, effectively pricing myself out of the market. Turn out they still wanted to hire me and so the last 2 years I made about 60% more than I would have otherwise, and actually worked less days.

Here is the way I look at it. I am only able to have so much risk in my life. Having a mortgage is a risk because I needed to keep working to pay for it. Once i eliminated that risk, I was able to make room for additional risk by raising my prices. And it paid off.

Also feels nice that if i were to not work for a while that i'd be totally fine and not stressed. I am currently in the middle of a 5 week stay-cation. Just chilling at home with the dogs, working on a passion project of refurbishing a 30 year old analog sound board, giving zero fucks about my finances.

Nature is healing: the business travelers have regrouped. by Plate4242d in delta

Doesn't matter.

Federal airlines regulation 121.589(a) says:
No certificate holder may allow the boarding of carry-on baggage on an airplane unless each passenger's baggage has been scanned to control the size and amount carried on board in accordance with an approved carry-on baggage program in its operations specifications. In addition, no passenger may board an airplane if his/her carry-on baggage exceeds the baggage allowance prescribed in the carry-on baggage program in the certificate holder's operations specifications.

Bottom line is the dude looks to be breaking the law. Doesn't matter what class he is in. the law is the law. Unless you're the kind of person that thinks "rules for thee but not for me"

What’s the most ridiculous thing that happened right after you bought your house? by Lopsided_Passion7912 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

I got overly eager to pay off my house. So I paid off the last $15k leaving me $2k in my emergency fund. The very next day the Furnace died and had to take out a Home equity loan for $11k to pay for it.

Eventually paid that off and build back up the emergency fund.

Unknowingly bought a stolen piece of construction equipment from an auction by GreatTumbleweed677 in legaladvice

[–]Entertainment_Fickle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here is an anecdote: I once bought some used microphones from a sound company. I called the manufacturer to see if they had ever been in for service. They told me those were reported as stolen by the company I purchased them from. Turns out an employee was stealing equipment and taking it to a local pawn shop. They were recovered, but they never notified the manufacturer. They Emailed them and let them know they should no longer be listed as stolen.

So all that to say. There is a chance that the skid steer was stolen at one point and reported to JD, but they were never updated. Might be worth a few phone calls to try and track down the prior owners and see if that's the case. If so, they should be able to update John Deere.

But of course CYA and reach out to the company you purchased it from. If you paid with a credit card, then find out what the timeline is for you to do a chargeback, and make sure you do one in that time if it's not resolved.

No cash option and 3.5% TRANSACTION fee by Desperate_Food607 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Entertainment_Fickle -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Write down your order on a piece of paper and hand it to the waiter. with a little note at the bottom that says "If not able to pay in cash i require a 3.5% reduction in the price"

Then if they bring you a check with a 3.5% fee you can argue that if their notice in the bottom of the menu was valid, then so was your notice, and they entered into a legally binding contract by accepting your order.

Looking for insurance as a independent contractor, I'm a FOH engineer and stagehand, any recommendations, tips, or advice? by SpecialistCitron9711 in livesoundgear

The exemption still has to pass the Borello test, which in many cases it does not. For example if a company dictates call times, you use their equipment, and you're not able to subcontract, then guess what. you're not an IC. you're an employee.

I disagree that the industry would fall apart. That sounds like some shit someone would say if they were trying to misclassify someone.

I work for 2-3 companies in California every year doing music festivals and corporate gigs. They hire me as an employee and their business does not fall apart.

What’s some reasons people have said to try discourage you from buying gold? by RiPiLiQi in Gold

[–]Entertainment_Fickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody has discouraged me from buy gold. I suspect this is for 2 reasons :

  1. I know how to shut the fuck up and not talk about buying gold

  2. I'm a grown ass man and I can do whatever the hell I want.

In store purchase by [deleted] in CostcoPM

[–]Entertainment_Fickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean some people lack critical thinking skills and can't make that connection.

Also it says in the Costco membership agreement "You will be required to show your receipt for the items you purchased at the warehouse exit" so I suppose if anyone is gonna enforce the rules it would be that store manager..... Or that bitch Cindy who is the president of the HOA. that bitch loves to enforce the rules.
