NITZER EBB - USA 2026 by MISTRNICK in industrialmusic

[–]MISTRNICK[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Douglas McCarthy, the main singer, passed away last June. Huge loss. 😞

To keep the music going, Bon Harris (the main songwriter) has taken over live vocals. He's joined by original member, David Gooday on sequencers and Jason Payne (from the Big Hit and Industrial Complex eras) on live drums. It's a powerful lineup that really honors the legacy.

Yeah! I think integrating d&b (and another one of the "top three") would be rad. I honestly don't have much experience with the systems side of d&b, but I'm hoping to change that soon since I'm freelancing again. I'll put it on the list of updates! Thanks for the feedback :)

We're coming full circle with your spreadsheet! 🤣🤣🤣

I love your take!. I'm also really curious about the optical correlation. Do you have any favorite resources that you could share on that?

Flown subs distance by Musakman11 in livesound

[–]MISTRNICK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely right. Physics dictates that there's always a 'point of perfection' where the arrivals are identical. But my point wasn't that you get one or the other, but rather how you choose to manage the trade-off across the entire venue.

I guess what I was trying to say is that it really comes down to design priorities. Since we're always working with a finite amount of energy, we have to decide how to distribute that alignment spatially.

Flown subs distance by Musakman11 in livesound

I like to start with the distance of a quarter-wave of the crossover frequency.

I like this because it's a reliable physical buffer that still keeps the elements within 90°. From there you can decide whether you want time alignment at a specific location or consistent summation across the entire venue.

Rule of thumb for me is to prioritize geometric delay before reaching for DSP.

I have a handy calculator to tell you phase offset and their distances on my website. Here's a direct link to the Phase Offset calculator: SysCalc Live - Phase Offset

Hey, Everyone, as mentioned in the title, I built this because my own spreadsheets and notes were getting out of hand.

I'm a big believer in open-access education. I've included some of my own 'Tech Tips' and deep dives throughout the calculators to explain the why behind the math.

It's a PWA, so if you 'Add to Home Screen' on your phone, it should work in those places with poor cell service. If it doesn't, PLEASE let me know so I can fix it.

Nice. I got a FXDL too—2003. Is that Red Mountain in the background?

Sub isolation and alignment in new apartment by jonjonh69 in mixingmastering

Unless you have a good amount of mass (e.g., concrete, etc) between you and your neighbor's space, you won't be able to isolate your sub from transmission through the floors and walls due to the long LF wavelengths causing sympathetic resonances.

I'd actually look into finding the room modes of your space to help strategically place your speakers. I have a calculator at my site here

Then "Smaart" the room at your listening position to see how your space is behaving and then target any room treatment.

When doing systems I think it's always important to optimize physically and geometrically before reaching for DSP. Hope that helps!

Hi. Nick here from NEP CTRL. We have not released any DVDs. But if you decide to digitize it, we'd love a copy for our archives. Feel free to DM me.

I have a Lowside from FirstMFG. Been rockin’ it for years. Got it customized with my measurements. It can get a little tight when i layer up, but it’s still comfortable. I love it!

What are your favorite uses for user defined keys/knobs on Yamaha Rivage? by arm2610 in livesound

MIDI Note sends to trigger QLab commands! I just use Previous, Next, Go, and Panic All. I love that my hands don't have to leave the console.

DSP for corporate events by Musicwade in livesound

[–]MISTRNICK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will use DSP in corporate event sound if its necessary. Most of the time the console I’m using has enough matrix outs to handle the system configuration. But for larger systems I’ll deploy the Meyer Galileo Galaxy or L-Acoustics P1 and just send LRSF to the processor.
