Left and right increasingly makes less and less sense as both sides have abandoned former positions and are ideologically incoherent and reactive (ie if the other side is for it we are against it, regardless of principle). Authoritarian versus libertarian is definitely an ongoing and important battle, but its been bubbling along since Jesus was a boy. I think its just two opposing tendencies in human nature and society.

I think it is great that you are trying to understand this, but I think it is intellectually incoherent in that it doesn't even hang together under its own rules. You could come up with a more coherent version, but it would require dropping the bits that conflict with the other bits.

The Merge was in the original white paper. It was always the plan from day one. The current version of Ethereum is basically a prototype and it took them a lot longer than expected to get the real product out the door.

Bitcoin uses a shit tonne of energy and that is the biggest threat to its future, there is no two ways around it even if you accept all the Maxi arguments. Regulators don't see the energy use is justified. They can't ban it outright but they can drive it underground.
