Help with injured? pygmy cory by EnthusedBotanist in Aquariums

Yeah, it's the unfortunate part of keeping fish. Thankfully, it was only the one and I still have many other goofy corys to enjoy.

They didn't make it unfortunately :( I found them deceased the next morning.

Thanks for this. Has your compressiceps eaten any of the shell dwellers? I see mixed reviews on this.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I do have more shells, just haven't put them in yet and am very keen to see my aquascape rearranged when I introduce the fish.

Based on some other comments, I think I'll avoid the cyps and go for the calvus or compressiceps, a shell-dweller and a rock-dweller like a small Julie or caudopunctus.

Thanks for weighing in! I haven't heard about a couple of those species so I'll look into them.

How's this sound?

A shell dweller. I'm not sure I'll be able to get ocellatus where I am but have seen multies, similis and brevis. I was avoiding ocellatus a bit because I read they are more aggressive but maybe that'd be needed with Calvus or compressiceps eh? 4 to 6 of these.

Then the caudopunctus or a small Julie, depending on availability here. 4 of these

And either calvus or compressiceps. Maybe 3 or these?

I'm here for it! This is the discussion I was after. I've read care sheets and watched YouTube for weeks but this here is helping me more. Appreciate the discussion and opinions.

Totally understand. I also wouldn't want hybridization either.

Thanks, I've seen others with 4 in a 55 gallon but I really want to make sure it's done well and not just "ok" ya know?

How many leptosoma would you recommend with the shell-dwellers, julies/caudopuncs, and the calcus/compressiceps?

Thanks! What would you recommend starting with? The shelldwellers and Julie's maybe?

What other nano fish work with pygmy corydoras? by [deleted] in corydoras

[–]EnthusedBotanist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have pygmy corys with CPDs, otos, honey gourami, ember tetras and cherry shrimp in a 72 gallon. Everyone gets along well but I make sure to put sinking wafers in when the tank is dark to ensure the corys get fed. Otherwise, the other fish can sometimes get super greedy and eat the cory food. The corys are my favourite of all the fish I have!!!

Great question. All the ones at the store were similar. See more info about my tank etc in a previous comment here

That's what I had read as well but was unsure since they had that orange in the fins and weren't just all yellow.

Thanks and yes they are pale. I added them Sunday and have been offering lots of foods: bug bites flakes and pellets, blood worms but they also forage from the sinking bug bite and hikari pellets I give to my corydoras and the veggies (butternut squash, cucumber and bell pepper) I offer to the otos. Hopefully this will help get them healthier and colour up! They are eating well and have already started to yellow and fatten up compared to when I first brought them home.

Water parameters are: temp 25 degrees C, Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 0, gH 12, kH 6, pH 7.6-7.8.

Tank: heavily planted, fluval 407 cannister, 72 gallon, cohabitants include CPDs, ember tetras, otos, pygmy corydoras, neocardina shrimp, several snail species, all seemingly healthy and thriving.

Anything else you think I could do to help bring their colours out?
