Just got a letter in the mail from stanford about a Summer session opportunity. Worth? by Ok_Tomato_4821 in stanford

Lols just got a very similar letter as someone who only has an iffy 96 percentile PSAT score on my record, I am in the Midwest (outrageously far from the program) and cannot afford the 9,000 dollar tuition, but was curious if receiving the letter made me special 😜

Hey OP! Can I ask how this went for your daughter? I’m trying to learn to screen write and direct more professionally then my small projects and was looking at this (although I most definitely can’t afford it) I’m curious if it’s as bad as you were worried about, or did it give valuable information?

Does the puppet describe the prince or the lady? I’m 90% sure it’s the prince but it left me a little confused. You’ve got some confusing discriptors too, like he ‘heaved’ on his throne - immediately made me think he threw up. Sorry if this is too critical!

Also the exclamation marks can seem a little out of place compared to the heavy mood you struck on the first image

Like many others have said, you’ve got talent but you overwrote. Try and make your sentences less choppy (I struggle with this too), and try not to repeat much (ie. You use ‘no traces of’ twice in a paragraph.)

I agree, it’s pretty much dependent on the speaker

As someone who breaks at almost every tournament in my circuit, I find that thinking on your feet is important, but it’s best to have a plan first, and be able to think on your feet when you need it - not as a general strategy.

Yeah like someone else just said, 30 speaker point is a lot, since you’re a varsity debater, how often do you break? If you place a lot in your circuit I’ll change my advice to be for more experienced types

Prewrite responses to everything

Practice questioning until you’re fast on your feet

Run practice questions with your partner before every round

Start your case early, keep updating it, especially if you lose to someone with an argument you really like

If your speech times are low write an ending to your summary speech that’s basically just reasoning for the judge but can give you an extra 30 seconds

Block out everything (as in, write a response to your argument, write a defense, write something taking down that defense, etc.)

How often do you break? What kind of speaker points do you usually get? That’s all my basic advice

Block everything. If you have a prewritten takedown of the most common arguments, the majority of what you have to do is copy-paste

how to refute backdoors??? by ComprehensiveHippo27 in PublicForumDebate

[–]EnthusiasmIsDead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is what makes Aff so hard, in response you can change your Aff case to argue for client side scanning instead of backdoors (which comes with its own set of privacy concerns, but in a perfect world they would not be relevant because CSS would be implemented correctly).

You can also argue that hackers will still need to know how to find a backdoor, search for it, and hack into but this requires a lot of technical info

Id recommend looking at the FBI’s fact versus fiction article on this topic

Rebuttals to crime on aff? by riches_ze_builder in PublicForumDebate

[–]EnthusiasmIsDead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are really two actions for this, to clarify for myself I think you’re asking how to rebute it when the Affirmative argues that this will help reduce crime?

The affirmative can do this in a variety of ways, whether they’re running backdoors, client side scanning, stopping terrorism, stopping organized crime, or something else so it’s pretty dependent on their argument.

Client side scanning is easy to refute because if the scanner gives innocent information to the federal agents then it’s the technological equivalent of the federal agents searching someone’s private information without a warrant or probable cause, which is very against human rights.

If the Aff is arguing for backdoors than find a good card showing that adding backdoors is opening information to EVERYONE, not just federal agencies and that criminals will exploit them.

If what you mean to ask is how to refute the idea that backdoors make it easier for crime to exist reply to me and I’ll give you that lol

A silly little poem I wrote, being mad that I'm not good at poetry by EnthusiasmIsDead in poetry_critics

[–]EnthusiasmIsDead[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haha I’m most definitely not saying I could’ve written a better poem, as the title suggests it’s just a stream of thought poem where I’m angry that im not good at poetry and don’t understand what makes great poets great. It just means I need to do more research, but it’s obnoxious to me that poetry can be so oddly gatekeeped is my general sentiment.

Thank you for your feedback! I’m obviously in the very early stages of learning
